    Next stage of online testing likely to be a comprehensive Aer Lingus personality assessment as per the Direct Entry recruitment process.

    Weren't there already two personality type questionnaire forms in the first stage of assessments?

    There was. When you arrive for the next stage there will be the EI specific aptitude tests. Very similar to the online version so try and remember how you answered them before. Truthfully hopefully:cool:

    This shall be interesting so. All answered truthfully but always have doubts about these personality questionnaires and how much they really tell about me, they're very limiting in the manner in which you can reply, seems like more layers to get rid of applicants, whatever way possible, not necessarily the best of indicators as to one's full potential to be a pilot but whatever reduces the number of applicants I guess.

    Correct, they will use it as another tool to cull numbers.

    The problem with the way EI do it is that you don't get any feedback about your answers. In my current company there were over 500 personality based questions very similar to the EI questionnaire. The findings were then presented to each candidate in a 1 hr psychological interview the next day. The questions asked were then based on you actual personality. I found the results eerily accurate.

    For example if the results said you were easy going they might ask a time when you had to stand your ground on a subject.

    My own example was that it showed on the scale between Team Oriented and Independent that I was all the way over in the Team area. I questioned this with the physiologist as I'm an only child and concider myself very independent. She countered that after speaking to me and getting examples from my work life that I was results orientated and that to get the results I wanted I had learned to work with the Team!

    One of the aptitude tests was a test to measure your competencies (management style) - that was the one with the circles that you had to distribute, not a personality test as such but more a test to determine how you measure against specific competencies.

    The other was indeed a personality test, without straying back on to the subject, it was a test to see if you're truthful, a team player, committed and empathetic. They're tricky indeed, but the key is to be honest. There's questions in there to catch you out if you lie (its referred to as "faking good" - bringing your integrity into speculation). There are 6 traits on this test, each with 6 questions, resulting in not a great and comprehensive analysis of what you're actually like, its minimal, hence the next personality test.

    I believe the Aer Lingus done more in 16 profiles as opposed to the 6 referred to by myself. These look more into honesty, anxiety, sensitivity, perfectionism etc.

    If you were honest in the previous personality assessment there should be a somewhat nice correlation with the next.

    Thanks for the insight guys, so you reckon the next stage will be more personality orientated rather than technical?

    I was just making the assumption it would be essay questions again based on what people were saying from previous years 1123heavy, nothing official!

    Not sure what it is but seems the next stage is another online assessment anyway.

    The last time aerlingus ran the competition I got to the second interview stage.
    The two years in-between when fte ran it I didn't get past application form stage.

    I've heard this is either going to be a class of 6 or 12 so less spots on offer than last times

    From my recollection it's played out so far the exact same as 2013
    Next stage was in a airport hotel
    It was a group exercise and then a 2 on 1 interview with 2 pilots.
    The stage after that was the second interview
    This was also 2 on 1 but far more intense. I had police clearance, ramp passes and medical permission forms filled out too at this point. After the interview there was a re-test of some of the online tests. The re-test only took about 30 mins vs the 2 hours for the online at home test
    The stage after that was to be a class 1 medical and offer of a position on the course 😢

    Best of luck all

    So you were knocked out after a retest of the aptitude tests? Damn, I thought they just retested to see if he results were similar to what you achieved online at home (to confirm that you actually sat the test), I didn't realise this stage was actually competitive.

    Well done on getting so far anyway !

    Hi All,

    Best of luck to everyone applying, anyone here a ballpark on the application numbers for this year?

    As for the next stage, I am pretty sure I read somewhere on that it is the same format as the E**com apprenticeship.
    Cut-E are the crowd that is running it and they ran the e**com one. If that is anything to go by, the numbers will be chopped right down for the next round, probably top 300/500.

    They will attend an Assessment Centre in groups of about 30, on this day you go into a room as a group, and get split up and do group[ activities like building lego models based on manuals, videos and models that you can buy with monopoly money, you also have to delegate work and roles within the team, this gives each person to assume a role, so you either become the boss or the quite one in the corner etc. Up to you which you think is best.

    Then you do a role play. 2v1

    Then a 2 on 1 interview.

    From the Assessment centre they narrow it down from there. For this i would imagine there is one or two more stages plus the medicals where they can knock you out.

    A part of me says it looks god cos surely they wouldnt bother if i failed the assessments. Then another part says what if they just want to keep these details for building a profile regardless ... HR teams do this sometimes. We shall wait and see.

    I'm the exact same as you, I know I made a balls of parts of the assessments as the clock was ticking and I started to get a bit flustered......it's not everyday I do online assements so it was far from the norm for me but then they send a mail that looks like they maybe interested.....

    I got nothing. I wonder if it's a slow release of mails, or if I'm out entirely. Guys what I'll be obsessing over for the weekend...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭1123heavy

    The optimist within me says it's good news. As while I can't be 100% sure, it's unlikely they'll want to build and keep profiles this early on for the unsuccesful. Just a waste of everythimg, but ya never know.

    I wouldn't worry buddy, all they did was ask to send them my subjects and grades. These were not actually included specifically in my cv, so I can see why they would want them for clarity. And if I had included them clearly I wouldn't have received anything ... but I would have still been in with a chance by the looks if it.

    All in all, I wouldn't worry about receiving nothing yet.

    Best of luck to all :)

    I haven't had an email yet either and I'm checking like 5/6 times a day even in my junk folder. Fingers crossed I'll get something, this would be a dream, like winning the lottery.

    To give you some hope 1123heavy, I also didn't include me specific results, just had "obtained & passed" and didn't hear anything. I wish all you guys the best of luck, if unsuccessful myself I'd be delighted for one of you guys in here to get it.

    Sorry I messed up the quote box above lol

    I got the same mail also. I felt positive about it on receiving it but I sort of get the impression someone might have been given the job of collecting every applicants educational results/qualifications.

    Did you all get the email yesterday? I still haven't got anything(I know its Saturday) but I'm starting to think that's me out. Annoying cause I felt I done pretty ok on the Assestment.

    On my cv I stated my highest qualification
    (LC) and the points I got, and the degree I'm currently doing.

    Is there a pysch test?
    The process last year was as follows:
    • Application to FTE;
    • If screening was successful, complete a series of online essay questions;
    • If successful, invite to assessment centre consisting of Interview, written tests, group work and aptitude;
    • If successful, invite to panel interview a couple of weeks later (pilots and HR);
    • If successful, Psychological evaluation with psychologist;
    • If successful, medical in Dublin;
    • If successful, offer.

    Guys don't be worrying, wait until you get a reply either way or until assessment centre invites are sent out.

    There will just be silence if unsuccessful. Something I dont like cos having spoken to hr at airlines - it really is not difficult to write an email and send it to a group of applicants., yet it puts people out of their misery. No one should give up hope until 4 weeks have passed anyway i think. As they said that was the time. And knowing Aer Lingus from previous endavours, they aren't the quickest at working through things and dont always reply to the successful at once, hang in there.

    Next round will begin at the end of August. I'd assume most successful candidates will be informed in the next 2 weeks.

    Rudders made an assumption based on information that contact would be made within 4 weeks of the closing date to successful candidates.
    The different stages from last year were posted up on page 4, expect this years selection process to follow a similar multi step system with heavy whittling down along each step.

    But I believe this year is running differently, with fte having no involvement. Aer Lingus do things differently, based on the past.

    The only info aer Lingus have given was that there were 2 online assessments before a group stage at Dublin in September. That in itself is different to the stated outline for last year.

    There you go, I didnt claim to have any confirmation. Merely made an assumption an posted a synopsis of last years process. With or without FTE, it will be 'similar'. 1 assessment before group stage is different but still broadly similar to 2 assessments.

    Successful candidates will get info when they get it. From talking to mates in EI, patience is a well needed quality for an EI staffer!

    It's been a good few years now since I last applied for the AL cadetship (2011), but they did email me about 6 weeks after the assessment to let me know that I was unsuccessful, so you'd never know.

    Yup, they said the unsuccessful would not be emailed and considering people have been asked to send on their grades that could only mean that anyone who hasn't heard is more than likely not through, always next year though !

    Not necessarily true. Those who provided full and thorough information first time around wouldn't have been contacted as EI would already have the educational details they have since requested off others.

    So could it be said that those who didn't include a full breakdown of grades but got no email requesting them are out of luck?
