Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Italy are well worth this lead. Spain are in big trouble.

Really dissapointed in Spain and surprised how good Italy have been... they seem to have a hunger. Maybe not the most talented Italian side individually that we have seen over the years but they work hard and I'm not ruling them going all the way...

couldn't see them handling Germany going on the Kraut's performance last night. too much youth, speed, power, skill.

same as the Euro2012 group game. Italy playing three at the back and it took a lot to deal with them then. The final they played four at the back and it was much easier.

Alba and Juanfran have not adjusted. Alba, Fabregas awful.

    Great save by De Gea.

Someone like Giacherrini shows why someones club form or club they play for can't always be a measure of how good they are. Irish players are stupid they just flock to England even though their skills would probably suit better elsewhere.

De Gea with another great save, amazing keeper.

Spain are lucky that was a goal and not a red card/peno!
Would that have been yellow for De Gea under the new rules of it was a pen?
    I'd say so.

Yep, I forget about the changed rule.

HT Italy should be 2-0 at least

Italy the better team at half time score line reflects the game

It's a good thing they didn't set up like this last wednesday otherwise I doubt we would have progressed

Italy knocking it around casually at the back could be their undoing.

Do Spain ever have a plan B? Italy bossing them easily.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,754 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Italy should be out of sight, De Gea keeping Spain in it.

Italy have been outstanding, far more than the sum of their parts.

Going as I suspected this Italian team are perfectly set up to deal with Spain, who are out of sorts. Can see it being 2-0 or 2-1 Italy now.

if this game was on RTE 100% there would be a Dunphy mulitple-orgasm commentary at the half-time panel about the Italian defenders.

Spanish football would be dying against the dead Italian game too :p
Spain look off the pace & predictable tho. Italy would be ahead by a few more if they had punch up top.

    When does 5his football finish?

Why is he watching if Ireland aren't playing?

Final is on in. 13 days ... Then 6 weeks (ish) to WC qualifiers

    Because 'The beautiful game' :)

Italy used their rotation to good effect after all (if they win this)!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,136 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

Italy's goals coming from different positions, sign of a good team?

Spain are lucky they have the best keeper in the world

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,206 ✭✭✭✭Scorpion Sting

Spain are being bailed out by the brilliance of de Gea. They've looked very ordinary whereas Italy have played a smart game, denying Spain space in the final third.

Italy win this and Conte and the Italians wont give a toss about the Irish game, was a great position for them to be in.

If they had a good CF their names would be on the trophy already.

Theres no excuse for hitting the keeper in the torso, thats a bad miss, you need to be making him work and putting it outside him. De Gea came at him in a straight line and he hit his body. poor finishing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

    Oh nasty and sneaky

I imagine the amount of diving out of the Spanish is just getting to him because it's driving me mental too
