Shearer rips into England after they crash out of every tournament.

    Nothing new there.

I'm starting to think would it be better for England to pick a team of league 1 and league 2 players would they do better in major tournaments they are disgrace to their country.

It's about time that somebody on the English channels said what's what. Far too much inane rubbish spoken by English panellists who don't want to offend their buddies.

Didn't Jermaine Jenas tip England to win the tournament?

So far in the qualifying England topped an easy group and were in a mediocre group consisting of Slovakia,Russia and Wales.

And played an Iceland side who were in the Euros for the first time ever.

They havent exzactly played a world class international side but they still lost to Iceland.

Most of those England players are overrated and over paid.

Jermaine Jenas knows it all now, what an imbecile. Just let Shearer talk, this is great stuff.

Easy to blame the guy who's just resigned.

Much more difficult to admit the players are not up to scratch.

Revelling in Joe Harts misery here, what a totally unlikeable person. Only gets the no1 shirt due to the club he plays for and his looks.

    What's so unlikeable about him?

Meh, over simplistic. They are better than they showed tonight. They are right in what they say.

    Shearer also criticising the players

Milner should have come on to the bitch at some point during game. They lacked steel.

    To be fair.

When are England going to accept they aren't a top team? They always act like they are Germany or France, fact is England record over the last several tournaments is awful, last time they won a KO game in a major championship was Ecuador a decade ago, They finished bottom of the group at the last WC, are they so deluded they honestly thought in the space of 2 years they would win, You keep hearing about the supposed great young players England have, Del Ali, Sterling, Kane, Dier ect, compare that to Germanys young players Kimmich, Draxler, Sane those are future world class players. Englands main problem is money, there players get paid similar wages to the true world class players, Sterling cost City 50m. were he from Croatia he'd have cost 10m.

Hodgson is a spoofer, a clever spoofer, but a spoofer nonetheless. Was found out at Liverpool, possibly the one big job he got at club level. Took on a job that nobody really wanted, and suited the FA as he wouldn't rock the boat and cause controversy. He pandered to media, refused to make tough decisions, (playing Rooney who is a busted flush, all of Kane, Rooney, Vardy/ sturridge), and was an absolute disaster. England were a disorganised rabble, and he then cowered out by jumping ship rather than facing the music.
    It's great :)
The players **** the pants tonight, lack real quality too.

He mentioned it after alright. But of course the tactics are also a huge part of the problem.

Your player quality gives you your base level. Your tactics should be what elevate you.

Even if England's players aren't as good as they think, they're still - to a man - better than Iceland's. But Iceland actually had a plan, and had tactics which they implemented to perfection. Had England done the same, they'd have run out easy winners.

The exact same will happen in 2 years, England have a piss easy qualifying group, they'll top it and start thinking there top contenders, once there knocked out in the last 16 again they'll be again wondering how there premier league stars have failed again. Rinse and repeat from England, until they stop deluding themselves and overhyping and overpaying average players they will get nowhere.

Shearer has been awesome, was never a huge fan of him as a pundit but everything he said has been truthful. Jenas has been pretty honest too but not as vocal.

Too much respect paid to Rooney. He should have been taken off much earlier tonight. If Rashford had replaced him earlier, it might have made a difference.

Why? Iceland qualified from a serious hard group at the expense of the Dutch, they drew with Portugal and beat Austria, why is it such a shock? England are no better in fact they are worse then Portugal. Iceland are a team and i'll tell you something a lot of there team might well be getting moves to some pretty big clubs after the tournament.

Which is disguised to a certain extent in the PL because the majority of them aren't key playmakers in the teams they are in. Harry Kane is a bit of a puzzler though. Is he really as bad as that?

This is so weird....I was delighted watching the match, and delighted with the result...but now i'm almost angry because of how **** England were, purely out of principle!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,468 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Iceland were difficult because they are not conventional . They do things not expected , make passes not typical. It's hard to play against such unpredictable opponents/
What they did on edge of box, those lil passes, that was something not expected ever. You can't pass the ball around on edge of box within a 5ft square, they did and passed it into net also.

    And so it was.
