Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So, Roy Hodgson has accelerated the inevitable and resigned from his position after tonight's defeat to Iceland.

Gareth Southgate is the bookies favourite to succeed him. Jesus wept.

He was always brutal anyway. Those were dark days at LFC with the constant 'managing of expectations'

Media were reporting he resigned, but it appears his contract was up after the Euros in any case. Lovely PR spin. :pac:

Gareth Southgate is the favourite? Why?

I have not heard that name in ages.

    -

Oh. He manages the U21s. Derp.

Forgot I saw him at the U21 tournament last year.

U-21's manager who failed to get the team out of their group at the U-21 Euros. It's a natural succession plan. :pac:

Surprised that 'Arry isn't listed. Wasn't he the favourite at one stage last time?

He probably would have got the position until his dog's bank account was discovered.

Steve Bruce or Stuart Pearce with a cheeky fiver on Ryan Giggs.

Eddie Howe. By far the best candidate.

No sign of Big Sam in the betting either.

I'd guess they will go foreign again after this. I wonder would Ranieri be interested? He would have the whole country behind him if they gave him the job I'd imagine.

If he can turn Simpson, Morgan, Albrighton and Drinkwater into regular starters on a Premier league winning team you'd have to imagine he can turn England into a competitive outfit at big tournaments.

"Doing well down there". According to Ian Wright, who followed it up with "not a foreign one though, we've had them and ... they've done ... well, but not for me".

It would be just our luck for us to finally get the manager who can sort us out in and for him to then end up landing that job. :(

That said, while he has a somewhat unfair reputation for his style of play, I think that reputation and the fact that he's very opinionated and strong willed will mean he won't even be considered.

It'll be another FA yes man IMO. Southgate.

At this stage give the job to Mike Bassett

Bertie Bassett wouldn't touch it let alone Mike.

Alam Pardew?! Sweet Jesus, says it all about the options available when Alan Pardew is second favourite...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

They should roll the dice and give it to a young manager like Howe.

It has to be an English man, the English won't tolerate a foreigner given current tensions

Do I have to take the bunting down now. I really hope not as it was brilliant for keeping the bloody birds off the roof. Any advice ?

Ah yes Pardew, excellent choice. If there is one arrogant pr1ck that I would like to see fall next after that wank5r Woy, then it has to be Pardew, :)

Eddie Howe won't touch it with a bargepole.

I can see them going foreign again.

Unai Emery is a free agent....

Actually could be a good appointment. Can organise a back line and motivate players. I'd be inclined to judge him more on his 10 years at Everton rather than his recent troubles at United and Sociedad

Not an O'Neill fan but looking at the names being tossed around, they aren't gonna do any better.

He was a good manager at International level and did a good job in the Premier league with Fulham and West Brom either side of the Liverpool job.

It's not like Liverpool were wonderful when he arrived and he wasn't handed a great team or a big budget to make things better. It's not like they were wonderful after he left either apart from one season, when you had Luis.

This team had a 100% record in qualifying and you won't do that with a bad manager.

He has to take the blame for the performance in the Euros but the players were awful tonight and I don't think that was down to the manager.

They could do a lot worse than trying to get Chris Coleman. He'd certainly be better than Southgate, but there's no chance he'd leave Wales for the England job.

Shearer wants the job so he says, he does.

I thought that he was going to do a Kevin Keegan and say "I'd love it if I got the job". he had to stop himself.

This is one of those times where they are absolutely going to have to look for someone of another nationality. There is nobody even close to being at elite level right now. They could do worse than try sneak Pocchetino from Tottenham but they'd probably end up with Roberto Martinez instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,360 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Allardyce should walk into the job, all things being equal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

The English options don't look too great.

Might they go back to a foreign coach? Laurent Blanc is available. Maybe make a play for Del Bosque, should he become available?

Or perhaps with the current political climate they don't want foreigners. Get someone with 'bulldog spirit', i.e. not very good tactically but shouts a lot.

The class of 92 failing that it has to be pardew.

If they are serious about breaking this cycle and starting again then someone like howe might not be a bad shout
