Continuing to work in US after J1 Graduate

I am wondering if anyone has had the experience of going to the US on a J1 Graduate visa and then obtaining employment that allowed them to stay there after the visa ran out?

I am looking at using the J1 Graduate visa to go to LA in the coming months and if I like it I am thinking I may like to work towards relocating there permanently.

Has anyone done this and if so how did they go about it? Is it possible to be offered full time employment and then move onto a H1-B visa?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

yes you can move to the h1-b but its tricky, very tricky. You well be in the lottery with the 250k+ others looking for one of 70k h1b visas in April.
So basically your potential employer needs to Lawyer up, get the application in and then you need to hope your successful in the lottery.
If you win then you need to wait till October and the new gov. fiscal year before you can go back on the h1b

imo its an option but its by no means a certain option.

The other options are self petition with a masters at the minimum and again there is alot of hoops to go thru. From what ive read its quite difficult.

The next option is to go to school there and then see what happens. But thats going to be very costly.

Am currently on the J1 grad visa in California. Apparently there is an extension for a few months that is allowed on this visa. No idea how to get it though..Anyone have experience in getting an extension?

Something to bear in mind is that is that you need to have the Company thats offering you the job do the paperwork for the visa.

So not only do you need to find a job but you need to convince your potential employer that they need to spend (a lot of) money and time sponsoring you for a visa.
