Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is it the same design for this season or have they reverted to type?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,061 ✭✭✭irishfeen

Gave the soccer a total break after Euro 16, it's great to have the new season on the horizon!

In Jose we thrust!! Stupidly optimistic again but fcuk it ... Least it will be a rollercoaster :)

I have never seen any sexism at Man Utd.

Out of curiosity is that design on the actual Women's teams jersey or is just designed for the female fan?

Can't believe it's game day with jose the manager and zlatan the striker someone pinch me.

Hopefully a win today to get the season off to a good start. Momentum is going to be important and a few good wins for confidence the sooner the better.

United don't have a ladies team so it's aimed at the fans

Quick question: Fretting here. Does anyone know if there is any way I can subscribe to BT sport today? I don't have it and the person on eir customer care said I need to wait until tomorrow to subscribe but she wasn't in that department (as it's closed today) so was unsure. Surely that can't be right? Would make for poor business sense.

Sorry for off topic & thanks in advance!

Getting the midfield shape corrected is the issue. Also, Jose needs to show some form of knowing what his best team is. Today's game I'd hope will reveal that.

I think you can do it online through the eir website.

I've a sneaky feeling that Leicester will turn us over today. Seen them play Barca the other night and I watched us trundle around against Everton. Leicester seem way more advanced in their preparation

Negativity & we haven't even kicked a ball! Did they not get hammered in one of the preseason games? I think we have a lot to prove today & will win comfortably

Could well happen, but what I wouldn't want happen is for panic to set in. IE start buying loads of players off the back of a loss in the Charity Shield. As long as there is learnings and they can be corrected. I think this season will be tough going. I just get the feeling some fans are getting caught in the Jose hype. Hope the players pick up the style of play he wants to play quickly. What that is I'm not too sure. The backbone of the team is incomplete without Pogba or equivalent replacement in midfield.

DiMarizio's camp saying all paperwork is signed and complete. :D

Would expect a briefing after the game tonight.

I think we need to get miki settled in the team and creating chances. We created fek all against Everton and that should not happen when we have him settled and mata to call upon.

Mata isn't going to feature in the first 11 even though I'd love to see him behind Ibra. But we know Jose. In this case, we shouldn't be depending on a sub to add some creativity. It needs to be there from the offset.
Rooney is still concern for me. He was playing too deep in the testimonial.
I'd expect MK to to start on the left. Ibra up top, Rooney in behind. On the left I don't know???

All of United's first 6 games are live on TV lads n ladies -

Bournemouth v Manchester United (Sky Sports)
Manchester United v Southampton (Sky Sports)
Hull City v Manchester United (BT Sport)
Manchester United v Manchester City (Sky Sports)
Watford v Manchester United (BT Sport)
Manchester United v Leicester (Sky Sports)

I honestly think mata will play his way into the team. He is a type of player that can come off the bench and make an impact if he does that enough it be hard to ignore him.

I'm going to refrain from getting involved in any Rooney/Carrick/Valencia/Pogba or any other player debate today.

Just going to focus on the match. I know a lot see this as a glorified friendly but I've always looked forward to the Shield, for me it feels like the official start of the new season.

It may not mean much to most but being able to start the season with some silverware, and a win in Wembley is always great for the fans. It won't be a sign of how the season will go, we have seen this in the not so far away past, but it is a good opportunity to see us play competitively with Mourinhos tactics and approach, and none of this 10-11 subs carry on :P

Man Utd expect to make 40m from commercial income on Paul pogba within the first year... 1/3 of transfer fee.

Is he on it full time or only the odd guest appearance? That's the way I read it

Reports are that they are going to push Pogba and Zlatan together and they have bought 80% of his image rights so Pogba will still make a mint.. Pogba is an extremely marketable person, he's already the face of Adidas basically.

I think we will see him spread throughout the weekend instead of limited to MNF. That was my understanding of it anyways.

    MNF and other things apparently
"I am delighted to be rejoining Sky Sports and can't wait for the start of the new football season, especially as there will be a variety of new programming on the channel," Neville said in a Sky statement, which also announced that presenter Rachel Riley would join their team.

"It is important for me that my role will be slightly different, and I am looking forward to the challenge of working on some new, creative and exciting projects."

Carragher will clearly take the piss about his Valencia and England failures. Great to have him back. Sky never found a replacement

If Pogba does sign, it will be annoying that he wont have a preseason under his belt

He won't start for about 2 - 3 weeks I'd say if he signs tomorrow.

And they'll be like 45 mins here and there, just to get the fitness up there

    annoying

Fitness will defiantly be an issue.
He's been lying on a sun lounger for the last 2 - weeks i'd say.
Muscles are relaxed. The last thing he needs is to be forced into the squad too soon.
    100m for an injury :P

I'm sure Jose knows this ;)
