Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Sky have build up starting at ten but I'd say they will just show snippets of the presser over the course of the day.

Galatasaray pulling some dirty tricks to get rid of Sneijder .... Might be a good addition to the squad ... Relatively cheap as well

Whatever about actually signing Sneijder - his treatment is fecking scandalous. Fined 300k for every yellow card he picked up? FFS, that is a disgrace and I hope any footballers Galatasary try to buy see this behaviour and tell them to F off.

I like Dortmund for that it's a bit tongue in cheek and humour I think clubs are too serious with media.

Three years ago today we unveiled Moyes. Took a bit of time but we got there. Onwards and upwards from here on

Kante and Pogba are two completely different players so I dont see the case for one or the other. In fact in an ideal world they would make a really good midfield two.

agreed, i dont get people saying they would prefer kante over pogba, kante is a defensive machine, pogba is more of an attacking midfielder that creates and scores goals

You know it will be vanilla generic questions and the media will have been briefed on what not to ask. He'll say he so happy to be here and can't wait to get down to work.

I wonder if he will confirm any other transfers

Marca claiming Real Madrid are going for Andre Gomes, no Pogba for Madrid is the claim.

Never been as happy going into a new season since Fergie left than this one.

Never wanted Mourinho but now he is here i think he will make his mark on the club.

Bailly in, still a bit raw but has the pace and is ferocious in the tackle

Ibrahimovic in, not expecting much to be honest, but a free transfer it was too good to turn down, if he scores 15-20 goals will be an excellent signing

Mkhitaryan nearly in, really excited about him, think he will light up the league, pace, skill, assists, goals, he is finally on the right stage to showcase his skills.

Lozano nearly in, tricky fast winger, will play a few games here and there and will develop at the club

Pogba??? who knows, would be an unbelievable signing if he goes though

    Exits..

Mata i would say will be told tomorrow he has no future at the club
Phil Jones or Marcos Rojo could follow
Depay will be given another season to prove his worth

Love Jose, finally a United manager with the right attitude since Fergie.

Interesting - 4 targets to be added to the squad (one more over the three we have), and then we are possibly done unless players want to leave, at which point it could be decided to replace them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,850 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

4th key signing won't be made on August 31st will be done way before that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,304 ✭✭✭madcabbage

Still can't come to terms that Mata will be given the door over other players. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,372 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

Moyes was given an unmotivated group of over the hill players who were still loyal to the last manager. Any manager bar Mourinho or Pep, maybe even them, would have struggled. Especially when none of their targets were signed. He should have been given a chance to get rid of the players causing the problems. He was there for a year and was the person best placed for this.

When LVG came in he was an outsider who was starting from square one. Now he did a good enough job on the cull but United were lucky to make the CL last season and probably wouldn't have if Liverpool had kept Suarez. Players who were useful were sold and players who were on the wane were kept. Leading to another bad season this time when none of the big money experienced signings performed and it was 2 kids left to nearly save the teams skin but ultimately came up short. Now it's great Martial and Rashford are there but no top team would have that kind of reliance on 2 players so raw.

Didn't like that question about working with younger players and looks like he had a prepared response there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,346 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Jose nailing the same youth promotion issue I had with LVG - injuries being the only reason youth players got selected. (Lingard was given a proper chance though).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,161 ✭✭✭Cypher_sounds

Jose - "I want specialists. From this four, we have 3. Until we have the fourth we are working hard on that."

"I want everything - to win matches, to play well, to play young players, to score goals, for the fans to be behind us. Everything."

    This his first press conference!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,656 ✭✭✭Western Pomise

Jose is some legend, while saying he didn't want to look back on last 3 years but should focus on the future he still gets in digs at both Moyes and LVG.
Re signings....'we won't be doing last one on 31st Aug'....mmm Fellaini!

Re success- ' in 3 years all we won is one FA Cup'
Paraphrasing slightly but that was gist of it.

Jose nailing the same youth promotion issue I had with LVG - injuries being the only reason youth players got selected. (Lingard was given a proper chance though).

Again comes down to what would we as fans accept.

If we would accept "challenging" and also accept some poor results and probably loosing out on Silverware, to blood youngsters for a five year plan. Then brilliant.

However if we want to get back to winning titles, competing in the champions league and being a force again, we won't do that with youngsters. Especially in the current premier league climate.

Said ages ago, the Mourinho we will see is based on the brief he will get. And if we see the likes of Pogba bids at £80m being official, then we know what the brief is. And that is to get back winning titles and competing for the Champions league.

I guess you get stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to youth. It's of course nice to see an acadamy player come through and establish himself in the first team. But now more then ever its stacked against them.

And while the youth stick was waved at Mourinho plenty by United fans before his confirmation, I think when you split that out to those same fans "Well here is the two ways it can go" the majority seem to land onto winning stuff. And by that extension it means youth need to take a backseat.

I see no issue with, or reason why Mourinho cannot, integrate 2-3 players a season. But I guess for me personally, the youth thing has always been a bit of a myth. Somwhat similar to La Masa. A golden generation, the perfect storm arrive, and then all of a sudden its an acclaimed thing, that should be producing every season.

I personally would prioritise making the club an ACTUAL global power, competing for Champions leagues and titles. Doing what Ferguson should have done after our CL stint in the 00's but failed to. We can talk all we want about how we are up there with Real, Bayern and Barca, but the reality is on the football pitch, we are not. And we should strive to get there.

And that means sacrificing at times youth policy and signing quality players. And I'm ok with that.

Looks like Mounrinho has NO intention of playing rooney in midfield.

    "Never a 6. Not even an 8"

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,690 ✭✭✭ElChe32

Great first presser from Jose. Loving the fact that he wants to get deals done now. No messing around, get the squad together and cement his ideas on them and hit the ground running.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,850 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yeah thought that too, would have been an obvious one.

"I was never very good playing with words or hiding behind words, and hiding behind philosophies. I was never good at that. I never tried to be good on that"

Well its good that we wont hear to much about philosophies!

  • Registered Users Posts: 892 ✭✭✭Delboy5

Re Rooney midfield.........he is a 9, maybe a 10, 9 and a half but no way a 6 or even an 8...... Rooney doesnt start scoring goals, he'll be on the bench!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

I'll need to catch this press conference on lunch.

Clarification on Rooney being a forward or bust, settles some massive fears I had of this season, immediately.

I'm in work so I just caught a few minutes while on the bog, got the bit about hiding behind philosophies, lol. A wee dig at LVG?

Also took that as a "lol" England WTF were you doing.

Youngsters was a great response, promoting when he had no injuries and regularly promoted when he was challenging for titles.

Another signing is imminent, then what happens after depends on leaving. Funny when he said, "we have the 3rd confirmed, yes?" and the lady said no and he just laughed.

Great response on Ryan, fantastic and a nice sentiment.

I wonder who the 4th player will be. It seems clear Pogba is the target, but getting him is another matter. If we don't get Pogba, is there a secondary target as backup? We've not been heavily linked with any other CMs. Small links to Gomes, Matuidi, Kante.

    In summary.

3rd signing all but confirmed, 1 more to follow. Additional players coming in will be dependent on others leaving/wanting to leave.
Also said there will be no last minute signings his signings will be done quickly

Said he won't be hiding behind philosophies L:)
Forget the last 3 years, Man U are a Champions League club.

Has always promoted youth and done it on a stage where he had limited injuries and was always challenging for titles so his youth promotion was based on conviction not circumstances.

Said Ryan wanted the hot seat hence him leaving and he commended him for doing so saying its a brave decision, and if Ryan ever gets the Man U job it will be because of his record that he makes for himself while managing.

Also said he won't be worried about just City but everyone else in the league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,320 ✭✭✭v3ttel

That was great. Rooney is a #10 or a striker, not in midfield. Another player incoming after Mkhitaryan, and possibly more after that depending on how it goes. We won't be leaving transfer business until the last minute.

All in all, that was everything I wanted to hear from our new manager. Roll on the start of the season. I'm going to the first home game...... can't wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,026 ✭✭✭duffman13

From what he said id say Pogba will be done in two weeks or not done at all. Jose wants his squad settled and in place so I cant see him having a summer long saga.

If Pogba doesn't want to come back Payet will do I suppose:)

Rooney as a midfielder knocked on the head, that'll do me.

Think we all kind of knew Jose would never go for it. Nice little dig on Hollywood passes that the English press always mistake for good midfield play.
