Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. That video of Sir Alex was gold. You could tell how proud he was of Nani and Ronaldo.

Pepe reaction is class in that video

The respect from Nani and Ronnie was evident in that video! Great to see!

Pepe also turned back to shake Fergie's hand.

"It’s a new chapter in the club’s life. Always when you change a manager, I feel it is a sad moment but it is a new chapter now. We have brought a few new faces in, we will keep some others but, in the end, it doesn’t matter who the manager is, it doesn’t who the new players are or who is staying or leaving, it’s Man United and Man United is much more than any one of us.

"The passion the fans have is for the club and I feel that I am a club man. When I arrived, I wore the [United] shirt immediately and this is the kind of club and the kind of shirt that I am very proud to represent. I am going to do my best to be happy and to make the people happy."

So if you stuck Zidane, messi or ronaldo in CB they would play great? your logic is flawed.

Sorry I should have been more specific. Meant relating to these "specialist" midfield roles.

I think a lot of it is total nonsense, masking up what are deficiencies in players.

So for Messi and Ronaldo, it's evident that they can basically play anywhere in the final third of the pitch, in any "position" you would want to name it, and they will be incredible.

Zidane could play any "role" you want to define in the midfield.

I'd say the excuse for Pogba is that he is young. But I'd expect a world class midfielder to be reading the situation, and understanding what is required. What was not required last night was him actually staying deep. He was totally ineffective.

Of course there is the arguement around tactical discipline, and Deschamps massively ****ed up. France needed some percision and guile in the final third, something Pogba can do. but they had Sissoko basically doing it. Marauding through from deep, but then utterly lacking with the final ball.

Obviously Pogba is now going to be a massive talking point, and I can safely assume (I havn't read anything past the quoted post above) that there is loads of "not worth it" and all that crap.

There should be some pretty serious recognition that Deschamps made a meal of that France squad, not just in the final, but throughout. he seemed to get loads of credit for his substitutions, but through the entire tournament I thought he just kept getting selection and formation wrong, when to me there was a pretty obvious formation screaming out.

Pogba has massively underwhelmed in this tournament, there is no doubt about that. But then simply put I'd say it's moronic and idiotic to take this rubbish tournament as a judgement for a player, without taking into context the players club form.

It's the Pogba playing for Juventus that is commanding this fee. Not the last few weeks of a dire tournament

New deal for Pogba at Juventus. Man Utd helping players get new contracts again.

I couldn't agree more, the championship manager generation takes delight in assigning very specific labels and roles on players and it over complicates what is still a very simple game. There used to be midfielders, now there are DM's, CDM, ACM, LWCMDM and a whole host of narrow definitions of what a midfielder actually is.

There is room for tactical positioning in football, but when you have people saying that Pogba was being played out of position last night you just have to roll your eyes. He wasn't in goals or at full back, he was in midfield and if he still can't influence the game despite playing a little deeper then thats on him.

I think as I didn't get overly invested in it, I won't be too disappointed. It had a massive whiff of a saga for us.

Whatever the outcome is, the saga will be over soon. Jose will move onto next target.

Yeah thats it exactly. It's one of the big trends in football the last number of years. All of a sudden managers take ALL the heat now for their "tactical inadequacies" and yet there is to me a growing trend of players getting less and less intuitive about the game and just not being able to solve problems. It's so evident with England, but just across the board.

Again Pogba is young, he most likely hasn't even learned that reading of the game sort of thing. But it wouldn't take a rocket scientist for him to tell Matuidi to sit deep, while he moved forward a bit. The majority of his game was rolling passes sideways and taking the ball from the CB's. What a massive waste. But its also on him that he didn't fix the problem.

Of course there needs to be some tactical discpline in players, but no one is going to question Pogba if he made a slight change to what he was doing, and setup a winning goal or scored himself. And I'm sure the manager would get all the credit : /

Would have thought there was enough experience on the pitch last night, for SOMEONE in the French team to sort it out.

Unfamiliar with his Chelsea days, but hopefully he is one to just provide a timeline/ultimatum and move on if it doesn't happen.

I guess from his history, he strongly rates pre-season and wants to get players in early and working. So hopefully now that Euros are over, this gets sorted out this week or next.

Be so typical if he goes and takes a holiday(Pogba) and it just gets dragged out. They should be getting it resolved this week, either he comes or he stays and move on

Yep, The world keeps spinning and its Pogba, his Agent and Juve who lose out financially.

United have 100s of Millions to spend and no matter who we sign, The No1 signing will be Jose himself.

Yep, sounds like its time to move onto next target:

Raiola (Pogba's agent): “There is a lot of talk about Paul’s future, but maybe he will not leave Juventus.”

Raiola: “He is in no rush to leave, and Juventus do not want him to go. They want him to renew his contract."

Raiola: “Paul is not desperate to move. We are very happy at Juventus and they are a club that want to keep their star players.”

Delighted for Nani and Ronaldo (and also Quaresma).

I hope Nani goes on to do brilliantly at Valencia. Any time he has been trusted to play regularly (like Chicharito), then he has delivered.

I would strongly doubt this is the last we will hear on the Pogba story over the next week or two. Latest comments could simply being making sure Pogba is still welcome at Juve should a deal not come to pass. I think there is still a lot more talking left in this.

The manager assigned him his role. Taking it upon himself to change his role is not on. He did move forward when the game and his role required it.

The lack of intuitive play at international level is not new. It's a direct result of how managers purposely set up their team and the nature of how briefly the teams get together.

It could be a 'hurry up and bow to our demands or Paul will sign a renewal' tactic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,767 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Hold on, he was put in a slightly deeper midfield role by his manager, where does it saw that he had to have no impact on the game.

Keane was a deep lying midfielder and he could dictate games.

Pogba did nothing last night. He only ever passed sideways, on even then his passes were on many occassions poor. He didn't show for the ball, he wasn't demanding it so he could start attacks.

Awful performance. I hope the bubble in the media has been burst by a very poor tournament. He is a good player, yes. World class, not even the best French midfielder in the tournament, never mid the world.

Would MU be better with him in midfield, yes, I would think so. Would we be better off with many others (like Kante etc) yes.

Anyone else seeing 5/1 on Pogba to stay at Juve? I've seen a few people mention that price but the best I can see is 7/4.

It was a lot bigger before today.

Mata 6/1 to stay at United just seen that i fancy that.

I thought Pogba's agent was trying to pimp him out? Now he's changed his tune and he might stay at Juve. We're better off keeping away from a player who doesn't really want to sign for us (being honest Real are his first choice). I would be wary that he is just waiting around for Real to come in and also his heart might not be in it. Hopefully we can move on from it before it drags on any further.

Bet365 gave 9/2 to guy in work for him to stay. Not sure you get that now

Its not that long ago he was denying a deal was in place for Ibrahimovic to sign for United.

Pay no attention to what players or agents say in public, its just a PR game.

Juve don't want to sell, offering a new contract is one way to try and get a player to stay.
Not the end of the world if he stays.

I really wonder what is going to happen to Griezmann this summer. I'm actually surprised he has stayed at Athletico this long. For a player of his ability not only could he thrive at United, Barca, Madrid (ok not likely the Madrid scenario would happen) or Bayern.. he really never seems to be linked to anyone in the press at least not on the scale of other players of note... I doubt we will be in for him this summer going on the attacking options we already have which is a shame as I think he would be perfect for us. Maybe in the future but I'd be amazed if another big club like Bayern didn't make a move for him now that the Euros are over.

Is it not true Mahrez and Kante have cheapish buyout clauses something like 20 and 30 million.

Would much rather sign both of those and give Schneiderlen a box to box role, the position he was his best playing.

This long? He only signed for them 2 years ago. He also only just signed a new 5 year contract extension.

I don't think Mourinho would have allowed the Pogba speculation to carry on for this long if he wasn't confident of landing him. The last thing he would want is an anticlimax before the season even begins. I think either the transfer will come to a conclusion over the next two weeks or we will hear the end of it from Jose this week.

Of course Juventus offered him a new contract. From a PR standpoint, they had to, after saying they wouldn't let him go. He may sign, he may not. But they were always going to offer him one so that if he moves, Juventus look like they did everything possible. That's what you do when you want to keep a player.

I could see there being the possibility of a standoff.

Juve wanting Pogba to reject a contract offer - so then they can accept a bid and say Pogba made it clear he wanted to leave.

It's getting on my nerves how money oriented football is becoming. The fact that players are only wanting transfers for the sake of money and luxuries rather than feeling emotionally attracted to clubs because of their history, their achievements and their stories is pretty disgusting imo.

For example, the only reason any decent European player is moving to China is because of the high wages they offer. They probably never even heard of the clubs there, never mind their history and their achievements.

Look at some young players in the game: Sterling and Memphis for example. Both earning big bucks, love to boast their luxuries but offer very little on the pitch to the point where sometimes you wonder if they really care about the club.

Ryan Giggs talked a bit about this problem during his punditry and I think it is a big issue in today's game.

True, there's no doubt about that but they gotta earn that money. I feel sick everytime I hear how much Rooney is earning for what he does. And it's not like once players retire, they just sit on their bums and watch tv for the rest of their lives. They usually pursue other career paths - coaching, punditry, analysts or even business ( Beckham, Ronaldo)

If it is not the players earning it, it will be the owners pocketing it, imo. The players have every right to demand their share of the massive TV deals and commercial revenue. I don't believe the club would reduce the ticket prices if Rooney asked for half the amount, so i've no issue with player wages from that perspective. My issue with Rooney's cash is I don't think his performances are worthy of such pay levels when you have players who are doing far better are far less. From a playing perspective, Rooney isn't worth it.
