Everything, but mostly public transport, crowds and work.

    Almost everything.

Need to mentally "psyche" up to even ask for a bus ticket.
If I am going anywhere I need to know the exact time of buses/trains/flights, have a 2 back up plans and be early and am in constant stress the whole time. Speaking of flying, I have a pretty bad fear, but can still get on a plane.

Crowds of people are actually okay (as in cities and what not), in the short term, but I certainly prefer the quiet and will seek it out.
But being asked to hang out with people in a social setting? No. I just can't deal with it.
Moved to England for Uni, never been anywhere except Uni for classes, been invited to parties/pubs/coffee/events and some I did really mean to go to, but chickened. Can barely speak to anyone I don't know.
Starting to have odd hearing loss over the past 4 years, but its only in "noise" settings, so walking beside a road, in a cafe or whatever, and I literally can not decipher what a person beside me is saying. I have since stopped going out at all because whats the point if you are sitting there not even hearing the craic.

I do feel Uni has helped me in a minor way, before I would not be able to go in a cafe and ask for tea/whatever, I just done with out, but now I can sometimes do that. But the friends/social life is still suffering very much so. Baby steps.

As a previous poster said, I have really felt like **** about how much its holding me back and ruining my life.
it's not just a case of "Just go, you will have a ball."

Don't really like heights. The picture of all the men sitting on the iron girder about 100 stories up eating lunch almost gives me a heart attack anytime I see it. Insects also freak me out. Hate all their hairy legs that let them run so fast.

My own psyche. Oh and cannabis. I absolutely hate the stuff now. Like inhaling a panic attack.

    Dancing.

Oh Jesus what's the story with dancing? I don't understand why other people want to dance, but I REALLY don't understand why anyone would pressure me to dance.

Most things because I have diagnosed anxiety :pac:

Speaking to people I don't know is probably the worst one though. Started a college course last month and I was trying to mentally gear myself up for it for a few weeks, and even trying to think of excuses to drop out of it before I started :o

That said, once I started, I forced myself to speak, and I get along great with everyone. The reality is never usually as bad as the fear!

No offence to people who describe their anxiety as running out of beer or not having a seat in the pub, but I think there are two different strands to this thread: anxieties and minor annoyances.

Clinically-diagnosed anxiety can be a debilitating condition, and can even have significant physical side-effects. It's not a minor stress or a petty annoyance, it can be as serious as clinical depression.

In fact, they're a bit like opposite sides of the same coin. I've often heard depression described as a heavy blanket, and anxiety described as a fire

Well the anxiety triggers I mentioned can be minor annoyances but I do get panic attack symptoms with them.

Well I wouldn't say I suffered with anxiety. I've had two panic attacks in my life. One just before a death and one at a funeral when the coffin was closing. So, if the thread is talking about real anxiety then I would say losing someone forever makes me anxious.

I suppose what I listed as my anxieties are probably just things that make me uneasy or a bit frightened, they wouldn't keep me up awake at night and I'd just worry when I was in the moment.

I am thankful I don't suffer from anxiety at all (or at least if I do it's very very very very mild).

Airport security / customs makes me very anxious. I was stopped and quizzed in Chicago before by these horrible custom officials and have been stressed about them and going through security ever since. Once I get on the plane I bizarrely relax.

Had a mini panic attack before ziplinning which has cemented my fear/anxiety towards heights.

Being in social situations where I don't know people and having to make dreaded small chat. Or large groups. I am better with one or two others.

I'm scared silly of dentists! Last time I went (like a decade ago), the cnut pulled a tooth with hooked roots without a working anaesthetic (wasn't working because of infection, he didn't cop til I was screaming). Hadn't gone back since.

Had to go last week because I broke my front tooth, and went to Smiles. if you're nervous with dentists, they're class! The dentist lady and nurse lady were wiping the terrified sweat from my face, stopping every minute or so to see I was okay, chatted for ages before to reassure me, and told me what they were doing before they did it. Went in a shaking, sweating mess and came out happy as a pig in sh!te :pac:

The one I went to was Clonshaugh. They're apparently great in O'Connell Street too. they have you fill a form with an option to say if you're a nervous patient. if you tick that you are, they're really kind and reassuring

I had the same experience with Smiles. I got a route canal done by a dentist from Smiles and it was less stressful than a check up with other dentists I've been too. They are also, not much, but a bit more reasonably priced than other dentists.

Yeah, they worked out a tenner cheaper than most for the initial exam, and my white filling was 40 cheaper than other places.

They also told me the prices before doing any work, so no nasty surprises like any other time I've been to a dentist

How did I not know about these dentist's? I've had fillings without being numbed & all because I am so.terrified of needles.

The needle they gave me actually wasn't bad. Usually in the past I needed 5+ shots. Just one this time, wasn't too sore, didn't see it and it was grand.

    Public speaking
    Flying
    Dentists

All give me proper I-can't-breathe-and-I'm-about-to-die anxiety

Really wish that I could find a solution to any of them

Each of these anxieties severely restricts my life and is debilitating.

Oh I no it wasn't pleasant, but that's literally how terrified I am of needles. Awful. It's totally irrational as well. But how do get over these sort of things? I find it impossible :(

Not visiting dentists for years?! What about cleaning? And making sure all your teeth are healthy??

Yep, years. I was terribly afraid after the incident I mentioned. Before that incident, it was 6 monthly check ups and stuff.

As for keeping them healthy and stuff, I cut out sugar, quit smoking, brush three times a day, floss, use mouthwash and use a medicated gel to prevent gun disease.

She said my teeth were way better than she expected, I need 2 fillings (aside from the broken tooth), which I was told I needed the day I had a tooth pulled a decade ago, so no damage or decay elsewhere in those ten years. I'm gonna get a cleaning and whitening too now that I know sound dentists exist.

Responsibility and maths. Regularly have stress dreams where I'm going to be evicted or for some reason have my degrees taken off me because it turns out I never took some maths exam I was supposed to and I have to learn lots of maths really quickly and aaaaaargh.

I nearly missed a flight once and was met with angry scowels from fellow passengers because I had delayed them 10 mins. Now flying causes me much angst. Not the actual flight but the checking in online and printing passes etc.
I become a lunatic stealing my sons school ruler to measure carry on cases, buying digital scales (Because that's what they use). I arrive at the Airport hours before I need to. I was grand before I got those (Scowels and tut's) when I was 20. Damm the lot of you !

Funerals. I don't go to any, not even close family.

I tried to go to my Father's funeral but didn't manage it in the end, due to being admitted to hospital for a week with a stress related illness.

I have donated my body to medical science so that no one will have to go to mine either.

Sorry to hear about your dad's funeral. Very sad.
That's very brave of you to donate your body. And also very kind that you don't want anyone to have to go to your funeral.
Would you mind if I asked what kind of reaction did your family/friends have when you told them this? Are people generally supportive towards it

I don't think it's a brave action, it just makes me feel better about not going to other people's funerals. Many people donate organs like heart or liver so why not the whole body? In Ireland, there is a big need for 'anatomical donations' and after 2 years, what is left of you is finally buried in Glasnevin cemetery, close by other, more famous personalities. All for free, saving funeral costs!

My family know about my donation to science, but I only told my sister about me not going to any family funerals. She has reluctantly accepted this. I think, because she was very concerned about me when I was admitted into hospital.
