Any idea what's wrong with my wifi on my laptop?

I have a Dell laptop N5110 running Windows 7. For the last year I'm having a really annoying problem where the wifi on the laptop cuts out every hour or so for 5 minutes, sometimes more. Yesterday over the course of the day it worked for 30 mins out of 4 hours on time!

The problem seems to be the laptop as the phones and tablets connected to wifi in the house work fine at the times when the laptop will not.
During these times the wifi remains connected on the laptop,signal remains excellent but the browser refuses to load any pages, downloads stop etc. When it's gone I can't log into the modem either.

Any advice on what I might do to stop this would be greatly appreciated.

Run "ipconfig /all" from the command line when its working and when its not, post both here (you may redact the MAC addresses if you like) and somebody can comment from there.

I would first check for an updated wifi card driver from the Dell website. also make sure Power Management is turned off for the Wireless adaptor (link)

Thank you. I have tried both of these with no affect. Any other suggestions very welcome and thanks for the reply.

Happened me with a Lenovo Thinkpad after 5 years - the onboard Wi-Fi started switching off and on sporadically so I bought this little TP-Link USB Wi-Fi stick from Argos for €21.99, it supports 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz so may give you faster BB speeds than the built-in Wi-Fi......

Tesco used to sell an older model that supports 2.4 Ghz only, it's still on their website for €4.99 but wasn't in the Stillorgan shop today, it used to be €19.99 so I'd say they've stopped stocking it......

Thanks a million, I'll look into that. My laptop is actually coming up on 5 years too, maybe it's getting old. I hadn't even considered that possibility.
