Headed from house to ballyedmund, on to ballycanew, Gorey, out old n11 to inch, took the right turn for Castletown, Ballymoney, courtown, ballygarret, killenagh and home.
    62km Avg 25.2kph

Nice day, very nearly didn't go out, just passed the 5,000 km for the year. All non commute.

60km out to Blessington and back (one of my bread and butter routes). I was a bit hungover as Mrs crosstownk had her work Christmas party last night and I stayed at home looking at bike porn on the internet and supping a beer or two too many.

Anyway, in Blessington we stopped for coffee and I had two lovely slices of sticky Christmas pudding with cream. Very tasty.

Where in Blessington did you stop?

(I tend to use the filling station on the left on the way in as I don't know anywhere else but would prefer a 'sit down' type of place).

There's a lovely pub (can't recall it's name) by the Supervalu there on the lake that did me well in terms of coffee and cake the last time I was down that way. They have a lovely terrace and spaces to park the bike.

I stopped at the Rooster (the name is something like that). It's in the shopping complex just off the main street. A proper sit down coffee shop with a bike rack outside. Indoor and outdoor seating too.

Check my Flyby and you'll see the exact location.

is the grangecon cafe still open there?
heading south through blessington, you'd take the left about 100m past the church.

    Not open on Sundays, unfortunately.

A light 34K to Dun Laoghaire and back this morning. Hit a large pot hole on the final straight home though:(. Wheel has a very slight wobble now but enough to touch the brake pad in rotation. Anyone know of somewhere close to D12 that i could get this fixed :).

Only seeing this now will keep him in mind in the future. Went up to cycle superstore and the guy fixed it for a fiver, hard to argue at that price.

Still managed to leave the store 60 quid lighter but that's how it goes when you cant resist some impulse purchasing:pac:

Lunch time spin up to Masseys Wood to try to clear the sinuses. Fantastic day out, but really need to take off the slicks and put the cross or knobbly tyres on for this stuff as I was totally all over the place. May just pick up a spare set of wheels to make picking a ride on the day much easier. Either that or a MTB. Or both ;)

    What a wet morning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,116 ✭✭✭Peterx

Those new e-bikes are amazing. A lad on a mountain bike with knobbly tyres absolutely blasted past me this morning as made my way along at about 28kph (I looked as I astounded by this lad in tracksuit pants haring away at his ease) , he must have been doing over 45kph.
At the next lights I got a good look at the bike, nice big Samsung battery in the downtube, XT gearing, big hub motor, all lovely. His acceleration from the lights was great too.
And he did look unfit. The ridiculous commuter racer in me assured me that I'd have him if only he was on a normal bike ;)

These bikes are the future. I could bring my mother on a spin with one.

And the rain went away with the night and so I didn't even get as wet as godtabh!

I thought they were limited to lower speeds, otherwise classed as mopeds?

there's a thread about them on the commuting forum, i think some lad was saying that that's not enforced.

peruse at your pleasure. the thread doesn't start out about bikes, but turns to the subject.

Yea it was filthy out this evening.. I dropped into St.Francis Hospice in Raheny to collect sponsorship cards for the Christmas Day swim in Portmarnock and having a little light left I decided a quick spin up over Howth Head on the way home.

Thankfully I had a clean, dry top in my bag because despite the climb I was wet and freezing at the summit, at that stage I couldn't wait to get home but there was a stunning bloody red sun setting down behind the Dublin/Wicklow mountains.

I took some photos but it was pissing rain and most are blurred. I'll try post later.

Here's a photo of Howth this evening, just before sunset. Sorry its so dark and low quality but the light was crap and I was having to wipe the rain off the photo to get some photos.

Cold, wet & miserable commute this evening. I never cycle Howth on the hybrid but took a quick spin up this evening (as I said earlier).

Roll on spring & summer ~ I don't do winters very well :(

Wow, fair play. Roughly how many letters and parcels would you have delivered while hitting the 20k 😉???

Definitely the makings of a "paper round " Business. :)

Serious amount of kms for a year..... makes my 5k seem insignificant. Chapo to you.. Wishbone

Where do you find the time ! and more importantly a very understanding otherhalf.

A very understanding Mrs WA (who doesn't like me to be under her feet) and shift work helps too - when you do a 13/14 hour day the normal working week is done in 3 or 4 days. :)

(20,000kms year to date (50 weeks) only averages at 2.5 hours per day which isn't really that much).
