They were both away from home......duh.

I swear that whoever the RTE pundits back to win get a curse as they always seem to be wrong and have to do a U-turn after the match.

In fairness to Giles, he did tip Portugal before the match started.

Portugal are possibly the least deserving team I've ever seen get to a major tournament final.

Let Iceland back into the game and couldn't break them down for most of the game.
Dominated against a terrible Austrian performance but couldn't score
Conceded three goals against an average Hungary side, again failing to win.
Defended well against Croatia but both teams were very poor and got through with a very late goal in extra time after creating nothing for almost 120 minutes.
Got a jammy goal from a deflection in another poor performance against Poland before eventually winning on penalties.
Today was probably their best overall performance but still with the exception of the first 15 minutes of the second half they didn't look like European cup finalists.

Denmark in 92 didn't even deserve to be in the championship.

Portugal have been pretty decent.they should have won their first 2 group games and Croatia and Poland are tricky opposition.

Wonder would that have been the case if Portugal had lost

I presume Bale would have been classy enough to say a few words

Why would you presume he wouldnt

Did I hear him saying the standard of international football is way ahead of club football?

May have heard it wrong... sleeping baby in the room. But if he said that, he needs to be retired tonight!

5 draws out of 6 games for Portugal so far. Lump on a 90 minute draw for the final on Sunday night.

Watching the RTE old folks home giving their opinion and salivating over that Portugal win really sums up how us Paddies buy into the hypocrisy. They are all full of praise for an ordinary Portugal team. Sickening stuff.

To be fair, they have been utter dross in this tournament but remarkably they somehow have gotten to the final.

They have ridden their luck and then some but tonight showed how ruthless they can be when they start playing.

I think people are right to say that they could be the worst team to win the final but they won't give a shít.

Fantastic to get to semi finals regardless of the result tonight
    Fair play

Portugal are such an average side. Germany and France the real final

Pity the Cork game is on at the same time. I won't be missing the Europa qualifier. They should reschedule the semi final i reckon

Would the #rtesoccer panel not just say Ronaldo is pure class and jumped about 6ft to score that goal 🤔

I know that statistically Ronaldo might get an assist tonight, but it wasn't deliberate.
Twice later on he had a chance to release players ahead and didn't.
The first was when he was on the right and 3 players broke on the left - he went backwards.
The second time he had a chance to put in one of the attackers and instead did a few step overs and the Welsh made it back (slowly).
Every free-kick is his, for a direct shot on goal.
I think that will go against Portugal in the final.
Appears as if he wants the story just to be about him.

The same accusations could be levelled at Bale tonight. Thought personally he was trying to make it a one-man show, and was over selfish at times

I hope Portugal go on and win it now. Great football tradition in recent years and punch above their weight when you consider there population.

I don't think they have been that bad. Have been unlucky in other tournaments in the past aswell.

He was a better player at United than he is for Madrid.. He always scored goals, but mostly tap ins and headers since going to Madrid.

Fair point, but don't know if Bale had the same options.
I'd rather be passing to Nani than Vokes.
Wierdly, every time Bale attempted a pass down the left he over hit them and left Taylor knackered running after hopeless causes.

    Stupid questions?

He prob asked it as when he scored Via England from long out a few ex goalies waid in and said he would have saved it if he had no wall. So presume it was coming from that. Hardly stupid if ex keepers debating it

I don't think so, Greece of course had worse players, but they had a system and they played it to perfection. Portugal here...I'm not really sure what they're trying to do. It's obviously working, as they're in the final, but they've really scraped their way to it.
