Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Most of the Welsh possession seems to be from their own half with defenders passing to one another. The Portuguese aren't pressing that high so they're bound to have decent possession stats. Portugual look to have more possession in their opponent's half.

I think it's silly to place an emphasis on possession in the modern game anyway. Leicester have shown you don't need a lot of the ball to be damaging with it. Wales have looked dangerous whenever they've countered.

I hate this thing of away teams wearing a different strip.

Take Ireland as an example. Played 4 games and wore green only once against Sweden despite playing Belgium (red), Italy (Blue) and France (Blue) .

No reason at all we couldn't wear the green then.

Collins is doing a great Paul McGrath job so far.

Dirt? Football doesnt take place in a vacuum man, the tension is palpable. I'm finding it utterly rivetting. Each to their own i guess

The biggest talking point so far seems to be that both teams are in fact in their away kits.

Does it really matter? It's basically 50/50 and posession matters jot unless it's 65/35 or beyond.

Portugal will surely bring Ronaldo on for the second half.

It was explained by George Hamilton that Portugal's rather dark red home strip was deemed to be not enough of a contrast to the Welsh away strip so Portugal were asked to wear their away strip too.

George Hamilton explained earlier that Wales are the away team and must wear away kit but Portugal's home strip is too close to Wales's away colour so they must also wear a change strip.

Portugal are well set up to nullify and Wales are missing Ramsey a lot - there is no one offering themselves just beyond the centre circle.

PORTUGAL ARE THE HOME SIDE BUT WEARING AN ALTERNATE STRIP AS THE HOME ONE CLASH WITH WALES'

Utter tripe so far from both teams.

Ronaldo should have a penalty off Collins but refs seem to under instruction to not give anything for that.

Couldn't give a **** whether either team is in a home or away shirt. It's irrelevant to me

Bizzare, the cynic in me think it's all about jersey sales for Nike & Adidas.

Weird. Why not let Wales wear their home strip then if Portugal can't wear theirs? Even if Wales were drawn as the away team, surely it's no big deal to let them wear their home strip if it makes more sense for them to.

Yes, I've been wondering where he was in that first half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Wales have done a pretty good defensive job but Portugal have had the bulk of the ball in the opposition's last third and I sense they could get some joy eventually from crosses to Ronaldo.

    So far, it's a stalemate.

Home kits are both red, so they probably didn't want to give the "advantage" to either side when both can just wear their away kit.

    They'd clash with the referee.

Wales should wear their homestrip so. So stupid to have two away teams.

Nice that George Hamilton explained that for Irish viewers. I'm watching German television and the commentary and analysis is ****. As usual I might add.

They are so boring. Even if the match is exciting the analysis is all super formal and absolutely 0 craic

Mad how people watching the same game have complete opposit opinions.
I'm enjoying it so far, good came. An early goal in 2nd half would do wonders

Sounds the same as Dutch TV coverage. Hated watching football on Dutch channels when I lived there. They still only use one commentator per game as well.

I'd say Ronaldo has spent most of half-time trying to convince Santos to let him take the 5th peno.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,546 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Does anybody know why the ref is wearing red? :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Benimar

Jesus lads, it's not hard to understand!

    - Wales are the designated away team (Portugal v Wales). Their red home kit clashes with Portugals dark red home kit.
    - Wales change to their dark away kit, which is also deemed to clash with Portugals dark red home kit.
    - Wales (like all International sides) don't have a 3rd kit.
    - Portugal also have to change to their away kit to solve the issue.
