Hi I have recently separated and can't afford to rent in Dublin. Thinking of moving to Arklow I work in sandyford and will have to commute with a toddler ( don't want to change crèche because is happy and settled, yet another upheaval)
I will be moving away from all family and friends. I know the area but won't know anyone. I am worried about being isolated. Am I crazy? The aim is to buy eventually in Arklow.

    Hi
Commuting from Arklow to Sandyford should be fine, particularly with the new road. I did the same trip myself for 3 years, though without a toddler in the car!

In terms of socialising in the town, I know there are a couple of Facebook groups for anything that's happening. There are also a number of weekday play-date mornings held for parents and toddlers which are either free or really cheap, run by a couple of different groups in the town. I know you work so probably wouldn't be able to make those during the week, but maybe if you've got a couple of days off.

You should also check out MeetUp.com for social groups in the area. There's a couple in Gorey and Wicklow town. I myself run a board-game evening in Arklow every second Saturday. Definitely check us out if you're interested in games.

    Good luck!
