It would be great to get a community going for those starting September 2016. I've done some research/preparation and shared below. This thread has no theme other than the course and year so contribute and ask questions, we can make this a resource for past, current and potential students.

My preparation plan is below, probably overkill and I am only half way through. Hopefully useful to others:
1. Computer Programming: CS50x Online Course (3 month course, not aligned with the Msc but good introduction to programming if you have time)
2. Review Leaving Cert Maths
3. Review Engineering Maths (I did BEng, not applicable to all)
4. Study specific Maths topics: Calculus, Linear algebra, Differential equations, Calculus of several variables, Optimisation techniques, Numerical analysis
5. Read up on computer programming languages: Python, Java, Object Oriented Programming (I believe you will learn one language as the course progresses)
6. Read up on other topics: Probability and statistics, Operations research, Optimisation techniques - Linear, (Mixed) Integer and Non Linear Programming, Quant methods & Applied Probability/Stats

Can anyone advise what laptop requirements were last year? We will be told this before starting but would be good to have the information now to start looking.

To add at some point: Job areas/prospects, potential employers, LinkedIn groups

Laptop recommendations - this is my interpretation of what will be sufficient:
1. Office based programs required - Word, Excel etc.
2. Possibly some specific software based on module choices and final project. These will run on Windows.
3. You can use a Macbook by running Windows on a virtual machine. Awkward but possible.
4. Most laptops in the last 4/5 years will be suitable - aim above Core i3 processor, 4gb RAM, 120gb HDD.
5. Look for a good keyboard and avoid netbooks, tablets or 2 in 1s.
