Max was told over the radio that rosberg is under investigation, therefore, in other words, don't risk a pass as you'll be premoted to second??
Is that not a driver instruction in itself, benifiting max?

At this stage I can't make sense of the radio crap.

A pity that RedBull didn't put on the soft tyres, if you look at Massas performance, the fight for second would have been far more interesting.

That was quite a dull race really. Pleased that Force India scored some good points and with Williams being absolutely nowhere they close the gap in the championship :D

I wonder what Rosbergs penalty will be

This business about radio transmissions is a new thing, the FIA don't seem to have the rules nailed down yet. It's possible that "health of the car" messages such as Rosberg's are within the lines. I'm not going to assume anything at this time.

Despite the iffy start I really enjoyed that race.

Apparently McLaren told Fernando to get a packet of wagon wheels on the way back to the paddock and they've now been investigated for possibly giving him steering instructions.

Looks like Rosberg told something by team after he got out of car

maybe not to talk about radio instruction before the investigation

Delighted Lewis won and look at the head on Nico :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,450 ✭✭✭LollipopJimmy

I would imagine it's the part where Nico asked about shifting through that has caused the issue. He's a terrible racer anyway, fast driver and I'm sure he'd do well in time attack or something but his racecraft and lack of balls make me hope he doesn't win a WDC, it'd be a travesty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,248 ✭✭✭✭BoJack Horseman

    Boooo! for Rosberg.

lol.... bit harsh from the crowd, but sure, f*ck it the guy is an infant.

Boo's for Nico :D I'm sure the Nico fans here must be upset

A big narky head on him. What are the odds nico will get the champagne bottle and clatter Lewis with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,698 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I hope Mark Webber asks Nico the burning question. "So nico how much do you hate Lewis ?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,262 ✭✭✭✭Autosport

This is just funny now, Nico getting nothing but boo's :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,833 ✭✭✭CFlat

That's just bad show by the British fans and also a bit funny after Lewis just said the fans in England don't boo, lol

Has anyone noticed Lewis now refers to Nico as 'him' and not his first name. There's real bad blood there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,472 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

I guess it balances out after Hamilton got boos in Austria

Can't see Rosberg keeping the second place with the radio instruction

I don't want to lower the tone of this great thread today but I think Susie Wolff is cracking hot.

Even if Rosberg doesn't get a penalty for the radio messages, he'll get a grid penalty as Mercedes will need to change his gearbox for the next race anyway.

Felt like the rain denied us of a great race today, good drive from Nico such a shame that he'll get a penalty. Going to be difficult to overcome Lewis on this form.

In relation to Vettels accidental "German block" (Rosberg, Schumacher and now Vettel) he should have been told to give the place back rather than time penalty.

    This too shall pass.

If the messages are concerned with the health of the car then surely the most obvious message (and the only one I think should be permitted) would be STOP immediately and switch off the engine - instead the purpose of the radio communication was to avoid losing second place to MV.

Id give him something to sulk about, ha.
Anyway, rosberg has bottled it again and Hamilton has the measure of him and rosberg has been found short.
He's after pissing away a 40odd point lead

So, will we hear from the stewards before or after 6pm today?

    This too shall pass.

5sec didnt seem like much punishment, maybe 25s more appropriate

The Rosberg boos was really bad form from the fans, and boos in Austria too. The boos in Austria were cause the stadium commentator broadcasted that Hamilton had hit Rossberg.
From that point you couldn't really blame the fans inAustria. Absolutely no reason for boos today.
On Vettels getting pass Massa today, how come Massa could avoid turning into Vettel? Same could be said about Hamilton last weekend. At end of day contact was made when Hamilton turned in, he could have avoided that collision.

Funnily enough, I always refer to that move as "pulling a Hamilton"

That was a rumour but the stadium commentator denied that afterwards, and he is a very experienced guy, Walter Zipser.
    Todays boos were revenge boos.

I think Hamilton said in interview with C4 this morning that why he got booed.

I wouldn't believe anything Hamilton, or any other driver says.
It's all media controlled. Kimi would've the only one I'd have any time for in an interview

They were watching the Wimbledon final. Also this case will used in further cases, so need to be really sure.

Decision not due til 6pm. Would be unfair to penalise Rossberg as he did not request help he just stated gearbox was gone, the team threw to information at him. Any ways I think C4 clarified at end of broadcast that Mercedes did nothing wrong as they only gave instructions on how to reset a sensor which is allowed.

He did ask the question though, which for me, falls firmly into driver assistance - "What does that mean, I have to shift through it?"

That said, the radio rules are ridiculous, but rules are rules.

The problematic part is the part after, when they told Rosberg what to do with the 7th gear and how.

Ross: "Avoid seventh gear, Nico, avoid seventh gear."

Rosberg: "What does that mean? Do I need to shift through it?"

Ross: "Affirm, you need to shift through it."

Press Association and Sky Sports (and probably more) reporting that Rosberg has received a 10 second penalty, which drops him down to third.

I thought it should be harsher myself, they avoided a DNF by breaching a rule, & came away with a chunk of points.

Yeah it's a bit of a cop out. The team gave him info which saved him a lot more than 1 place, he's very lucky here.

Setting a bad precedent there IMO. Every team can now gauge the pros and cons of a 10 sec penalty vs a possible DNF and just decide to break the rules if it benefits them to do so (which it probably would do in the majority of situations)

Agreed, 10 seconds isn't big enough to discourage teams breaking the rule now for an advantage. Ricciardo should and would have been on the podium if Merc hadn't broke this rule, it needed to be more than 10 seconds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,472 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

The rule break was for the second part of the message, to shift through 7th gear. Rosberg suggested the right answer to the the team, so knew what to do, it was the team then confirming it to him that was the issue. So dont see Ricciardo catching him if theyd refused to answer

Radio rules are a bit of a joke anyway, taken from the sport not having insight into what the drivers thinking

Either the rule is in place and is properly enforced with proper punishments for breaking it, or it's scrapped. What happened today was cowardice on the part of the stewards for not taking the proper decision, simple as that. Fwiw, I don't think the rule should be there in the first place, the FIA screwed up big time introducing it.
