Has anybody had a go at them Jaffa Cakes? Mine looked fine at the start but started 'sweating' couple hours later. I'm wondering why is that? It can't be out of fear to be eaten :D

Jelly layer is a bit too thick, my tray wasn't big enough.

They look amazing! Did you get the recipe from the GBBO website?

I googled GBBO Jaffa Cakes and the first result that came up was Mary Berry's. I've never made them before and I'm delighted with the result. They're quite easy and fun to make.

Just watching the first episode there now. Is it me or Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood have very little knowledge of ingredients outside the most traditional of British food?

They'd never heard of yuzu, didn't know what matcha was, last year Paul was shocked at the combination of grape jelly and peanut butter, which he'd never heard of... It's bizarre.

That's what I thought, but then they go and penalise people who use the ingredients they're not familiar with!

I don't think that is fair. Mary Berry in particular always appears interested in hearing about new ingredients. Maybe it just didn't taste nice?!

did you keep them in the fridge? it can sweat if it cools to quickly either in the fridge or in a cold kitchen.

    Yay biscuit week!
The little sponges for my low cal jaffa cakes are in the oven. I think they will be very tall and therefore not very authentic looking but hey, cake is cake!

Is it fair to a contestant that they might be marked down just because a judge isn't partial to a particular flavour?

    How can they not practice?
I don't believe the contestants when they say that.

Just ate a nice boston cream cupcake as my GBBO treat! Im baffled as to why Candice would make 48 biscuits? Why not do 24 and finish them off well??

    Jaffa pretenders!
Next time I'll make 24 little sponges out of the mixture rather than 12, and maybe make the orange jelly discs a bit smaller. But I think they look quite cute anyway!

Does anyone know if this is available online anywhere? Trying to get my Bake Off fix from Canada but having no luck :(

If I remember one thing from LC English; pathetic fallacy.

Damp air makes it harder for sugar and icing to dry , biscuits take longer to crisp as well...
    Moisture is the devil

Poor Louise. She had a disaster but she was very dignified and at least she didn't bin it.

Candice's pub was fab but I'm not particularly keen on her.

    I love Jane and Andrew.

Does Candice remind anyone else of the Youtuber Zoella (Zoe Sugg)? It struck me straight away last week & I can't unsee it now. :o

I dunno, I thought Andrew deserved star baker more this week. And I think Val should have gone.

I thought some of the icing on the biscuits was shockingly bad!

I've learned from watching TGBBO that in the first week or two, if it's iced gingerbread constructions, they don't really criticise the icing too much. It's more about the actual build itself and how it holds, which I think is fair enough.
As the weeks go on, they would expect more high standard finishes.

I meant the biscuits in the first round!

The innuendo count this week was particularly high!
    Checklist :
    - Carry my jugs
    - Do you want my hands on your bag?
    - Who wants to eat some carpet?
    - Were you ever a beaver Paul?
    - Your sister is very tasty
    -You've had problems finishing before

    - Carry my jugs

"Can you come and grab my jugs", rather. :D

All time quote of the show has to be last night from Mary.... "I'll eat a bit of carpet"
