Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What a magnificent victory. A true victory for football fans. Ronaldo, nani, Eder....these are players you will be telling your children, your grand children about.

    Stupendous!

Pepe for man of the match for me.

    Was immense all night.

Throwing up he put so much effort in.

Coman and Martial both poor enough, Pogba likewise though playing deeper than he'd like Payet was poor, Giroud was poor, Griezmann marked out of it.

Portugal deserved it for their obduracy, Ronaldo going off may actually have been the best thing to happen to them - had to play compact and be more clever and patient

Didnt like them for some reason but glad portugal won

In the battle of Copa America (Messi) v Euros (Ronaldo) it is 1-0 Ronaldo,

Well done Portugal, nearly exited at the group stages but here you are, champions. Happy for Ronaldo.

    Hard luck France.

Poxy game, fitting of the tournament. Portugal were the better team on the night though.

Deschamps should get sacked straight away. One of the best group of French players for some time but they are far from a "team" just a group of individuals with poor team selection and tactics

Time to switch to BBC and enjoy the collective misery

Ha ha ha at Thierry will he be crying

Pepe proved this season for both club and country that when he concentrates he's one of the greatest defenders in the world.

Should Pepe get player of the tournament?

Portugal who were a victim of Greece in the final when they hosted the tournament now do a Greece and beat the hosts 12 years on.

The ref just did the same thing in this game as the ref did in the bundesliga relegation playoff game. He acknowledged the time wasting by the keeper but adds on nothing to make up for it.

Not that I'm bothered. Delighted Portugal won it.

It's been a poor tournament and one of the teams most responsible for bringing the standard of football down has won. Very disappointing.

    Well done Portgal.

Proving you are a good team without Ronaldo.

I think they were better without him.

Rui Patricio and a bit of fortune won it. Goes to show if you don't take your chances then anything can happen.

    thank **** that's over.
one of the worst tournaments over, with one of the worst winning teams ever.
can't wait for the REAL football to start back again.

Fair play to Portugal their defence was generally excellent. It's not their fault Greizmann missed a sitter.

3rd placed group stage team goes on to win the tournament. Could call it a success for the new tournament format.

Well done to Portugal. France undone by a dodgy handball decision that caused Koscielny to get wrongly carded so he didn't have the scope to foul Eder before he scored.

Fair ****s to Portugal. Delighted for them. Been impressive enough throughout the tournament. A couple of flare players and organised as ****.

France have been underwhelming the whole tournament and Deschamps has hindered them with his selections and tactics.

Delighted for Portugal, it's nice to see a new name on the trophy. Purges the bad memories of '04 a bit. Very happy for Ronaldo too. International success is the icing on the cake for his career.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Says it all about the tournament that the eventual winners won just one game on their way to lifting the trophy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

Might be blasphemous to say this, but Portugal probably played better when himself went off.......

Justice you'd say. A victory for football, first the story of Leicester and now Ronaldo and his Portuguese brethren. The greatest footballer of his generation finally adds a major international trophy to his haul
