Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Delighted for Portugal. It makes up for the Euro 2004 and the big loss from 4 years ago.

It's been a poor tournament and one of the teams most responsible for bringing the standard of football down has won. Very disappointing.

Disagree, they did the best with what they had. Great coaching.

Well done to Portugal. France undone by a dodgy handball decision that caused Koscielny to get wrongly carded so he didn't have the scope to foul Eder before he scored.

I must say that's a bit of a stretch in fairness.

Says it all about the tournament that the eventual winners won just one game on their way to lifting the trophy.

The important thing was they didn't lose any.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,089 ✭✭✭Lavinia

If you look at the players generally French guys are taller and slimmer so you'd guess faster too, but Portugal was better tonight. Really happy they pulled themselves this way after that
Also that goal was EPIC! Really good goal

****e game but fair play to Portugal they were well organised and worked their arses off. France disappointed, they didn't do enough and don't quite gel as a team.

So happy right now. Thank you Portugal for the decent little sum of money coming my way.

Delighted for Ronaldo. His haters must be livid. :D

Just shows they didn't need Ronaldo after all. He really did have an average tournament.

Justice you'd say. A victory for football, first the story of Leicester and now Ronaldo and his Portuguese brethren. The greatest footballer of his generation finally adds a major international trophy to his haul

I doubt he'll think he's won anything as he wasn't on the pitch for 100 minutes of the game.

Delighted for Ronaldo. 12 years after he lost the final, it looked like he'd never have another chance to win a championship for his country. Then when he was stretchered off, he must have felt so low.

It's fitting for a great of the game to have eventually had success for his country, credit to Portugal for stepping up in his absence. The likes of Pepe and Nani deserve huge credit.

Good start to the next season for Ronaldo after this and it will be another Ballon dor.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,050 ✭✭✭✭The Talking Bread

Coman and Martial both poor enough, Pogba likewise though playing deeper than he'd like Payet was poor, Giroud was poor, Griezmann marked out of it.

Portugal deserved it for their obduracy, Ronaldo going off may actually have been the best thing to happen to them - had to play compact and be more clever and patient

Yeah, I mean like. Eight minutes on the pitch. Playing against an experienced defence 1 - 0 up and battling for their lives to keep it that way. You could write articles upon articles about his performance tonight. Awful show.

    thank **** that's over.
one of the worst tournaments over, with one of the worst winning teams ever.
can't wait for the REAL football to start back again.

You mean the football where the players don't give a toss about the teams they play for and who's main goal is to move around and make as much money as they can for themselves.

If anything this restores a bit of heart to the game a team who played as a real team and are playing for their country which means something real and tangible to the players.

Without Ronaldo they wouldn't have even got to the final, he'll they wouldn't have got out of the group stage.

People will still put Ronaldo down. Give it up for Christ's sake
