Opening a new account for a non resident?

    Hello.

    I hope this is okay to post. I wish to find out some information about opening a bank account for a Turkish friend who is in Ireland studying English. He has a three month visa and is hoping to get a visa extension. He would like to know how long he will be waiting for an account to open? What he would need to do in order to open one?

    Help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks for getting in touch. 

    To open a Current Account with Bank of Ireland your friend will need valid Photo ID (passport), he will also need to provide proof of his current permanent address. 

    A non-resident may also be required to provide a character reference and financial history from their own bank.

    Generally an account will be opened within one working day once we have received all the required documentation.

    Okay. How can he get proof of address? Would a letter from the landlord be okay?
