    I dunno, constant surveillance seems to run counter to the general, if slightly ill defined, principles behind the Federation; ok, you could have some automated monitors for gunfire, explosions - but I think those did exist?

    There's also the minor fact that the episode I think bluewolf's referring to was more than a little rubbish, and a slim excuse for a limp whodunnit.

    It was pretty rubbish i skipped half of it. I had it on while i was running around anyway

    I didnt pick up how those magic guns worked or why they didn't use them all the time

    1) Star Trek: Continues (Fan Made, youtube) (its pretty good)

    2) Watch Battlestar Galactica

    3) The Expanse

    4) Rewatch Stargate

    5) Watch Killjoys

    Enterprise if you haven't seen it already. Yes the first two seasons are pretty bad, but not the human rights violation some people make them out to be, and three and four are good.


    Or Farscape. Everyone should watch Farscape but I don't know how easy it'll be to track down since it's not on Netflix anymore.

    +1 on Farscape; its resting state was always a touch goofier than Trek, but it had a wicked sense of humour, and really tried to lean into properly alien cultures and how different morality could be on different planets.

    Although it also suffered from the curse of the flakey first (half) season; the initial 5 or 6 episodes weren't great.

    Continues is great.. bridges the gap between TOS S3 and TMP nicely by the end as well.

    Definitely worth checking out.

    Anyway - I have never watched DS9 and love TOS and TNG - plus the films.

    Been having a bit of a DS9 revisit the last few days myself. It still holds up well IMO and far better than the latest offering. Watching Homefront at the moment.

    Ah no, I LOVE DS9 but no way is its first season as good a season as recent.

    Discovery has had a better first season of any Trek barring TOS (for its time)
