Nootropics order detained at customs - Legal status in Ireland?

I made an order off powdercity for the following products:

    Uncertain about legal status:
    - Coluracetam
    - Phenibut
    - Sulbutiamine

    Believe is legal:
    - Citric acid
    - Monk Fruit

I received a letter of detention from the HPRA as they suspect it may be in breach of regulations under the Irish Medicines Boards Act 1995-2006.

They are asking for the website I purchased off and the payment details.

Can any advise me on what to do? Have tried googling legal status of each but no results come up.

    Thank you

If a completely anonymous enquiry was made of the following people, it might shed some light on whether the goods are restricted:
    Medicines Unit
    The Department of Health
    Hawkins House,
    Dublin D02 VW90
    Tel: +353 (0)1 6354000, LoCall 1890 20 03 11
    Email: medicines_unit@health.gov.ie
    Website: http://www.health.gov.ie

If you have imported restricted drugs and if Customs are looking for proof of purchase from you, you need advice from a solicitor before making any admission or handing over any evidence.

The order was about 100 euro so the costs of a solicitor would not be worth it in this situation. I have messaged the company that shipped it and am awaiting reply but because it is a US based company I'm not sure if they will be able to help much. I will ring them up and report back, cheers for that.

EDIT: They said they would get back to me by the end of the day.

I think you have got the wrong end of the stick if all you are worried about is the value of the parcel you are losing.

This is my first actual legal thing I'm going through now so I'm a bit clueless.

By that are you implying that the HPRA may take legal action against me for this if I give them enough evidence to do so ? Some advice would be appreciated as I was about to email them all the details the requested to show compliance and fight the case but this definitely looks like the stupid way to play it out :)

Say nothing until you understand the penalties, implications and procedures.

You're likely attempting to import substances that are controlled in the EU. Ireland would be implementing normal EU wide rules on customs and drug licencing etc.

Seems from a quick Google most of those companies selling those items have had them siezed in Germany and Scandinavia etc too. So they're very likely to be illegal here.

If you contact the Irish Medicines Board they'll explain what is being seized and why.

At the very least they'll be seized and destroyed.

You need legal advice here and this isn't a very good place to get it. I certainly wouldn't recommend sending in documents without getting them checked through by a solicitor.

You could be looking at being prosecuted so, probably best to take this fairly seriously.

Best case scenario is the items will just be seized and destroyed.

OP the items may well be controlled which might land you in some trouble, but it might also be that they think the goods are counterfeit which could be indicated by them asking about the website you purchased from and the amount paid for the goods.

good bought off powdercity, very reputable store. I suppose ill just let them destroy it so, on the letter it says if no contact within 28 days case will be closes and package destroyed.

This thread reminds me of the scene in the Wire where they make the guy write a letter of apology to his victim's kids.

Apart from his name, address and contact details on the package.

"I have no idea who sent those here..."

The HPRA don't usually bother with prosecutions for the first time for prescription or unlicenced meds (although I suspect if it was oxycodone etc that are also scheduled, they might).

I had a look online and the 3 that you say are questionable are sold in shops in Ireland from what I can see online.

I also found this website: http://smartdrugsmarts.com/legality-look/
Couldnt get it to work in here but that might be the work firewall at play.

Could be a fake name or someone else set him up,if he doesn't engage them the package is destroyed.
If they were really concerned I. E thought it was for narcotics etc they'd follow up a lot more carefully than asking please show us you paid for this please

    True.

Anyone could order on someone else's name. That's why customs have to deliver suspect packages before arrest.

Anyway - the more important question is what do all these things do?! :pac:

While they may be sold in Ireland, they may require an import license. The shops in Ireland may have such an import license, while the OP may not.
