Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Replays

It was mentioned by Ciaran Whelan on the Sunday Game there the other night, that a vote taken on removing replays in the championship took place last year. It failed to gain a two thirds majority but wasn't far off, gaining 59% in favour of scrapping replays.
Do you think replays should be scrapped?
3 teams played replays the weekend before last and had to tog out again the next weekend, of these 3 (Cavan, Laois, Monaghan) 2 of these lost.
Clearly the fixture congestion is causing teams to struggle playing 3 intense championship games, 3 weekends in a row.
The GAA love a replay as we all know €€€ but I think they should be scrapped with altogether, imposing extra time until a winner is decided. This gives the loser an extra week to recover for their qualifier game in the cases stated above.
I’d like to know what others think. Should replays be removed? Should replays just be allowed in provincial finals or AI finals? Or maybe you like another day out to the matches and think we should keep them in our games?

There's certainly an argument to be made for having the game go to extra time the first day, and only have a replay if they're still level after the extra 20 mins. I think that's hard to disagree with that. But replays have always been viewed as a bit of a cash cow. I'm sure the Connaught Council are well pleased with the bonus of another bumper crowd in Castlebar next Sunday, especially with the game not being on tv you're probably guaranteed 25,000+ so it will be seen as a juicy payday.

But personally I think the introduction of extra time in all games will probably happen sooner or later as money aside it's difficult to argue against it and it's notable that almost 60% of delegates agreed with that.

Have a penalty shoot-out if still level after extra-time in a replayed match; with; Five 45-yard frees to be kicked off the ground; it might bring back the art of kicking a placed ball like Kerry's Bryan Sheehan and Stephen Cluxton of Dublin who appear to be the only two proponents of it left in the game.

The top brass have repeatedly tried to get rid of replays, it just gets voted against by the delegates. Aogán Ó Fearghaíl has stated numerous times how he'd like to remove replays.

This argument that the top brass love replays is over simplified.

Replays cost money to host, the gate receipts are less due to reduced prices and reduced attendance.
They play hell with the schedule.

A few years back replays were in place for all provincial preliminary and QF games, but they were dropped wothomuch fuss after a year or two.

Some classic games have been replays.

Unless there's clearly bit enough dates in the calendar (which can be case for some qualifiers), then just to go to a replay.

There isn't enough dates in the calendar though and that's very obvious, what needs to be also remembered here is that these players are essientally on loan from their clubs. The ordinary club player is already getting fcuked around enough without the added problem of replays and the uncertainty of club fixtures.
