11 seconds but Froome could suffer for that tomorrow.Big effort but Sagan is a beast

Great stuff, going to rename it to the Tour de don't know what Froomey is going to do next!!

Wonder if Sky have taken the view that Mont Ventoux will be neutralised tomorrow - or effectively - by the wind.

Dare I say it, Froome is actually quite entertaining this year. These type of stages are turning out to be far more exciting that the mountain ones.

Just shows you the difference it makes when a team loses their GC man. Sagan is free to cause havoc now and of course he has his own reasons to get away from the pure sprinters.

What a monster Sagan is, & superb work by his teammate also. Fabulous mentally & physically from Froome to be alert to what Sagan could do at any moment, & great to see him fully committing to the move also. In fairness, whether he's just in such condition that he can afford to put in these kind of efforts or whether it's stuff he might end up paying for, either way great way to see big gc contenders perform in this manner.

what time did Froome take out of the rest , not including bonus seconds ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 95 ✭✭isitraining

The last two stages have been more like one day races than part of a Grand Tour because of Sagan. He has been amazing.

Dan Martin doesn't seem to have much support from his team. It makes it pretty hard for him if he has any issues with his bike.

Was Quintana caught out or just not have the legs? Surprising he didn't respond.

I wonder is he capable of putting a couple of minutes on Froome in one of the mountain stages or does he have the support from his team.

Froome certainly laying down plenty of markers but long way to go yet.

Phew! My heart climbed towards the end there. Tinkoff clearly had a idea to attack much like they did in 2013 as you could see them grouping at the front. Froome hesitated in 2013 and got caught in no mans land when that group went... but not today.

If he wins the race by the 40 seconds he's gained by the two attacks, then he very much deserves it.

And Sagan is the best rider in the world.

    Totally agree

Quintana is always in danger of losing time in crosswinds, he's just too small. Even if he'd been alive to the danger i'm not sure he could have stuck with them. Even Kristoff wasn't able for it. Movistar looked all over the place and didn't seem to be at all instrumental in organising the chase, despite what Valverde said in the interview afterwards.

Anyway if Ventoux is cut tomorrow it may turn out to be a very smart move by Froome.

I enjoyed Dave Brailsford interview on the extra segment. He had a dig at the other teams for not racing, it seams Sky want to win not only the tour but peoples affections also. Great to see the yellow & green jerseys at the front like that, respect!!!

Quote from Geraint Thomas when describing their breakaway...
    Sagan was just motoring

.... probably not the best phrase in the world to be using!! :pac:

Actually might be a good thing.............they still have to go up thru the forested section and maybe, just maybe, Quintana will finally wake TF up and have a go....

Some very angry cyclists on Twitter after that. Just a taster there from Gero.

Could leave the "Russian" bit out though. Most nationalities don't struggle to produce egotistical pricks. I'm sure he's adept at being a gob****e but take away the sham veil of decency & what do the Murdochs amount to - totally different level of pricks. Not that I'm aware of much of a veil - Rupert Murdoch & his far-right 'news' agencies & army of hardcore pornography channels beaming into a family home near you. Not the best image for the sport - though more reality than image.

Total classless photo of Tinkov agreed though with his stupid triumphant middle fingers.

A shorter stage is probably good for Dan right?

Watching the Orica Backstage video this evening, you can hear Sagan ask Bodnar to accompany him onto the podium for the awards ceremony after todays victory. Nice touch, IMO,..... there are those that still have no time for Sagan, but he is turning into a class act and a stunningly competitive cyclist. Even stronger suggestions tonight (from Tinkov himself) that he is bound for Bora – Hansgrohe (as the team will be called) next year and was asking for €6M per year. Specialized are stumping up for some of this......I wonder where that leaves Sammy B.?

Stunning work by Froome today; I'm not a fan, but credit where it is due.....

Bodnar said in interview straight after the stage Sagan was saying to him he'd try and let him win the stage but Bodnar said no, that it would be too awkward - I suppose given Froome would be sprinting himself.

For Sam B, sometimes as domestique/lead-out man when/if partnered with Sagan would be far from the worst thing for his career & learning curve.

I've never seen Quintana do anything other than ride on a wheel.

Fair play to Froome, he's such an awful man to watch wrestling with a bike usually but by God is ratcheting up the entertainment in this tour.

Between today and his last descent stage win, they were two hard-earned and risky time gaps. He must be looking to really make a mark, cos you'd imagine he could just play it safe, wait for the hills and walk away with it there.
