    Evening,

    As the family is now getting bigger need to replace our 2nd car (currently a Nissan Micra) with something bigger. Now have 3 kids plus Grand parents to move around.

    I'd like this car to be:
    • 7 seater
    • Automatic
    • Petrol
    • Budget 8k

    Plus it shouldn't be too big e.g not a Galaxy or Alhambra size car.

    I'm currently looking at VW Tourans 1.4 Autos - like this:

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/volkswagen-touran-1-4-auto-dsg-385-road-tax/12301433

    The small engine is appealing as this car will 95% of the time be doing short runs.

    What else should I be looking at?

    Thanks,

    WM

    Mazda5, though most of the autos are Japanese imports.

    As above or a Zafira, in this size/budget, I think it's a strong contender, if you find one, go for the 1.6, it might do if only in city, but it is pretty weak.

    Other than that, it's an Astra, so it is cheap to run, to insure and relatively reliable. A friend of mine has one that he uses as a van and for the occasional trip across the continent (the back becomes a camper) and is quite happy with it, his is a 2.0 manual, would be hard to find here I suspect with the tax being what it is... but he never had any issue in 4 years of ownership if that is anything to go by.

    Does an Astra come with 7 seats?

    Was searching and came across the Corolla Verso, anyone know if this comes in an auto?

    Thanks.

    What I meant was that the Zafira is sharing a lot with the Astra, not that it is an Astra per se ;) Think of it as a 7 seater version of it if that makes sense.

    the verso should be available with an auto gearbox alright, not sure what kind though. Also a safe bet by the way.

    Corolla Verso comes with an automatic manual gearbox which is not really a proper automatic. They are a terrible gearbox and best avoided. Not sure if Japanese imported Versos have the same gearbox or a standard automatic as there are very few of them here. Also the Corolla Verso has a very small boot if you need the 3rd row of seats so you either prioritize people or luggage.

    BTW do you need 7 seats or would 6 do? The Honda FR-V is a 6 seater (3 up front and 3 in the rear), a good few about in automatic petrol.

    Options for 7-seater petrol automatic are extremely limited, especially with that budget...

    Answer this: do you really need a 7-seven seater? If this is going to be a second car anyway, why not to get something that will accommodate the kids and have rest of the gang in the second car?

    If you do, you'd probably need to look in UK:
    * 2nd gen Grand Scenic with 2.0 Petrol - exp. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201602030682220
    * 1st gen Grand C4 Picasso - 2.0 Petrol - exp. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201606074706251
    * Vauxhall Zafira

    I've found a car I'd like to go look at. Before I go see it, I'd like to do a check on it. Would you recommend:
    • motorcheck - full check EUR35
    • cartell - full check EUR25

    Thanks,

    WM
