Have a look at Camping Esterel near Fréjus/St.Raph

We booked directly with the campsite previously & hired a car from Nice airport.

    Really nice spot.

    Hi boardsies,

Curious to get feedback on visiting campsites around Nice, France around the first week of May?
I've looked at average weather, not sure its exactly pool weather.

Anyone traveled at this time for a Europarks holiday?
I happen to have some time off to burn, it looks nice, affordable and convenient.

    Thankyou

We're going to La Baume in Frejus in July, I'd say the weather start of May will be perfect. I'm quite worried about July being too hot as we usually stay further North! Looking at the next 10 days the average seems to be about 21. We're flying to Nice and hiring a car with Alamo, think it's about 60km.

Safe journey to anybody travelling over Easter. We're off on Saturday with Stena to Cherbourg and then a couple of hours to La Vallee in Houlgate, Normandy. Hope the weather holds up!, Any opinions on the site or area would be appreciated!

How much is car hire in Nice?
Heard it can be expensive there.

I'm a little bit anxious now that we aren't exactly looking at pool weather (week beginning May 1st) in Frejus.
Saying that, I'm sure it will be a great trip - lots of great little towns and awesome food. Looking forward to it.

20 degrees on average, Irish folk would be dropping in the street here with those temps. I reckon you'll still have a good time of it.

Heading to Cherbourg with Stena in August and looking for recommendations for somewhere to stay overnight with young children, along the likes of Travelodge or Premier Inn before setting off the next day towards La Rochelle.

Very basic, but cheap and cheerful.

Heading to Cherbourg with Stena in August and looking for recommendations for somewhere to stay overnight with young children, along the likes of Travelodge or Premier Inn before setting off the next day towards La Rochelle.

If you're arriving into Cherbourg on the Tuesday/Thursday sailings at 16:00 my advice would be to head straight out of Cherbourg and get a couple of hours under your belt so you only have +/- 3 hours driving left the next day. You could easily make Rennes by 19:00 (allowing for disembarking and traffic etc) and stay in https://www.hotel-bb.com/en/booking-hotel/price-and-availabilities.htm?departureDate=24%2F04%2F2017&hotel=RENNES+Ouest+Villejean&arrivalDate=23%2F04%2F2017&selectPersonNumber=2&utm_campaign=google&utm_content=2016&utm_medium=affiliation&utm_source=hotelfinder&utm_term=localuniversal where a family room is circa €50 a night. It'll be similar to a Travelodge i.e. basic but clean, safe and all you need for an overnight. It's on the orbital road so you won't be going out of your way and you'll be on the road to La Rochelle straight away next morning.

If you're arriving into Cherbourg on the Saturday sailing @ 10:30am Sunday morning then if I was you I'd just hit the road for La Rochelle, stop a couple of times en route and get there by 17:00.

Just thought I'd post this for anyone looking into camping in Brittany.

I'm 19, so have a totally different outlook on the oul camping holidays!

We've been to two sites in Brittany; Domaine des Ormes (now les Ormes)and Le Point st Gilles in Benodet. The latter was nice, but we didnt think it was for us. However, we did go at the start of September so it wasn't exactly high season. The town itself is absolutely stunning and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Domaine des Ormes is one of my favourite places in the world. My fist visit was back in 2003 when I was only a wee baby!! We've been going ever since, this year will be our tenth year returning. There's a whole heap of things I can tell you about the site, most of which are easily seen on various websites. We've 3 kids in the family; myself, my brother(16) and my sister (11). The whole family love the site and find it extremely difficult to stray.

My best advice would be to look at the alternative types of accommodation i.e. not mobiles or tents. We stayed in a wooden lodge with Canvas for the first time in 2014 and it was lifechanging!! Dramatic I know but it's true!! The lodges are stunning with really comfortable beds; my dad HATES the beds in the mobiles lol! They are also fairly affordable; we booked ours for 7 nights from June 3rd for 300 euro!!

Quite a long answer but I just love the place so much I'd love for others to know how great it is! If anyone has any specific questions about les ormes/dol de B/the Oscar Wilde, feel free to ask me!

Hi all, travelling on the Stena Horizon today. Could anybody advise what time they let you on the boat please? Due to sail at 16.30. They say check in is open on a Saturday 3 hours before sailing but does that mean you can get on as soon as you get through passport control. I don't want to be sitting in a queue looking at the boat for hours if I arrive early!

If you arrive and see a flow of traffic outbound against you then they are still unloading the incoming traffic. Haven't done stena but I know Brittany ferries on cork-roscoff route don't hang around and load as soon as they can. Only delay occurs when people cut it too tight or don't have tickets, passports etc in order.

Weather has been 21-25 every day.
Thoroughly recommend it for easter if you can get a deal with ryanair flights

Have stayed in Le Grande Metarie a couple of times - only negative thing I can say is bad wifi and bad phone signal, would hightly recommend.
About 3kms from Carnac and literally accross the road from the Carnac standing stones.

Hey guys just wondering if anyone booked any campsite holidays via the sun newspaper codes and how did you get around the UK address requirement or does it not really matter.

Flick back a few pages in the thread and you'll see a contributor laid out exactly how to do it.

Start here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=102408313&postcount=401 and work your way forward. Using the Parcel Motel Newry address is one workaround for the UK address issue.

Found it thanks very much. Does anyone who booked have a final figure for a week?

It's coming up as £122 for me but I know there are extra charges also that bump up the final figure but can't find any exact amount.

    Hello,

I couldn't find any threads related to this topic.

In June I'm travelling from Cherbourg to Rosslare as a foot passenger with my cat on a Stena Line ferry.

I emailed the company to get information on how to support my cat if he needs to answer the call of nature, as they say. For the moment I'm getting nowhere with them, so I thought there would be someone in the Travel forum who has experience with taking a cat on the ferry.

I don't know what to expect exactly.

Will I be able to open the kennel and let him out for feeding and the toilet needs? Do they provide a litter tray with sand, or will it be ok if my cat just does what he needs to do...on the floor? ?

And then? Will I be able to get something to clean after him?

If I find he's soiled the carrier, will I be given something to clean or will I need to bring cleaning products or wipers or else?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Regards,
    Sandra

I got that link, thanks. It doesn't say anything about it. That's why I emailed the company. And that's why my query is directed to those who have travelled with a cat on the Stena Line ferry to Ireland.
I'd like to hear from those who have direct experience of this.
    Thanks.

Yes. I just put in my Parcel Motel postcode. You get email confirmation from the sun immediately. You then get confirmation from Eurocamp approx a week/10 days later with your Eurocamp reference (don't book flights/Ferry until you get the Eurocamp confirmation) Plus they send you the invoice for the balance outstanding - you have to pay the £7.50 per night supplement plus a £15 damage waiver But it still works out at £180 for a week all in which is still great value

The base charge is £30pp for a week. Min 4 people plus £2.50 cc charge which you pay directly on the sun website
You then get a confirmation direct from Eurocamps with your holiday details. They will invoice you for the camp supplement - £7.50 per night plus a £15 damage waiver fee (you can avoid this if you ask them to take it off and pay £100 deposit to eurocamp on arrival..but its not worth the hassle tbh)
Final total for 4 people for us was £190 for week.
It works..! I'm just back from a week in spain at easter with 10 days booked in France for July
Only caveat is...wait until you get email confirmation from Eurocamp before you book flights etc

Do you mind me asking which park in Spain you went to and which airport you used.

Went to Camping Torres del Sol just south of Cambrils
Cheapest ryanair flight was Belfast to Girona. We hired car...2 hr drive to campsite
But you can fly into Barcelona which we did last year..1 hr drive
Or Reus airport which is only approx 25 mins from campsite

    Hi All,

Just looking for advice on good sites in the Vendee region. We have been to La Garangeoire Campsite before, where we rented a mobile home and loved it. This year we have bought our own caravan and have it booked on the boat for the last 3 weeks in August. We would have no problem going back to La Garangeoire as it was a great place, however we would like to see somewhere new. Any suggestions would be welcome. We have two kids, both girls aged 10 & 7.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

    I have time.
    I'll wait a bit.
There must be someone who travelled with a cat on a ferry!
