I ordered from Amazon the first day of pre orders and I got an email 4 days ago to say Estimated arrival date November 12th. I cancelled a bit prematurely when I saw the length of the controller lead but may pick one up again in the new year since seeing the solutions on here, no rush

    Apt username!:D

I can't wait to see the hacks for these, I'm sure microsd support and other expansions are in the minds of some very talented people.

I'm hoping for that but I want the famicom mini instead.

No e-mail from Amazon today about a delay and it is still set to be dispatched on Thursday, possibly Amazon favouring Prime users again.

They must have hit their pre order limit again, sign up for email notification and they will mail you when they are in stock again.

Not me anyway. Still planning to head to Argos first thing Friday morning after reserving one during the night. Handing it over then as it's my Christmas present!! :D

I've it preordered from Zavvi with a discount code bringing it down to €51 or summit but it will be ages before I get it and I've a few days off next week and wouldn't mind playing it.
Should I cancel and chance Argos? Or am I mad and impatient?

I dunno man. You might not get one from argos, and it'll 99% be more expensive than the zavvi one.

Mad and impatient! :D I'm in the same Zavvi boat. It won't be as cheap in Argos and there's no guarantee that you'll get one. They could have very limited stock.

No email here about any change and not a Prime member either. Maybe just one of the lucky early ones.

Here's what's inside Nintendo's mini NES Classic Edition

Nintendo's NES Classic Edition may look like an old-school Nintendo Entertainment System (if it had an encounter with the "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" laser), but what's it packing under that miniature hood?

With a few machines now out in the wild ahead of the NES Classic Edition's 11 November release date, a few daring souls have started to peel back the chassis for a peek at what Nintendo's popped inside.

And, considering it's replicating a 33 year old machine, you might consider the mini NES's internals a little like overkill.

    Quad-core for koopas

Gamespot's Peter Brown went inside first of all, and tweeted the following image:

Though he revealed that soldered-on flash storage would make it near impossible to update the machine with your own games, he didn't identify the components in use specifically.

But Reddit's gaming community was more than a match for the task, examining the image to break it down component by component.

It found an Allwinner R16 (4x Cortex A7, Mali400MP2 GPU) system on a chip, SKHynix (256MB DDR3) RAM and Spansion 512MB SLC NAND TSOP48 flash storage.

With a quad-core chipset, it's far more power than the 8-bit NES ever made use of. But with the NES Classic Edition outp utting over HDMI to 1080p resolutions, and also making use of processor intensive filters, it's got good reason to have a little extra headspace.

It's worth remembering too that, though more powerful than the original NES hardware, it's far more economical to use current-gen, off-the-shelf components than it is to rebuild era-specific 80s hardware, which production lines will no longer be set up to create.

But...but...but...it comes with a second controller. Bargain!

Really though it's disgusting. I feel like saying something on their ad. They clearly only bought it to scalp people. I hope nobody buys it and the shops are teeming with them in time for Christmas. Their username is quite apt.

I'd like to see its return. They now say that while they don't encourage profiteering they also won't remove any listing doing so. That to me is encouraging profiteering. They make an exception for tickets though.

Ninty militia assemble, time we all made a collective offer on one of these bargains and tar and feather the bastids. It'll be fun and who ever gets the most tar and feathers on the rats gets to keep the item in question after tarring the cost price in 5c coins to the seller of course as they have to be paid and all that.

Surely a "tar and Mariofication" would be more in-keeping with the forum ethos?

Hi All, just having a read through this thread, Do we think it is going to be very hard to get your hands on one be it through argos or Gamestop or wherever?

If you want one for launch day, argos will be your only bet pretty much.

The NES is probably the most iconic video game console in history. 65e for a miniature version in original style casing loaded with 30 classic games. Bargain if you ask me. And a nice piece of popular culture to have. :)

I don't know, I think Smyths and maybe Gamestop might have some stock set aside for the general public. But ya Argos might be the best bet. I'm surprised their UK link hasn't gone live yet.

Jervis street smyths won't have any spare from what I was told today, blanchardstown swords and carrickmines might, Get In At 9 Am if you can on Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,255 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Elephant in the room for me is no one seems to know anything about extra controllers they aren't even on smyths site only game seem to have them listed. They will be gold dust IMO.

This will be Argos' UK NES Classic Mini webpage. It's not up at the moment though.

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4608305.htm

And this should also be its product code in Ireland, 460/8305.

So check their Stock Checker website early on Friday morning for where and numbers available and of course price. They're normally fair.

Something that's really put me off is the controller cable length, which is meant to be 3 feet or less. Seems a strange design choice by Nintendo.

It's 2 and a half foot and yes it's a peculiar decision, as is accessing the reset button(they could have come up with a handier alternative). It's going to create some very awkward setups.

    2 and a half feet ? That's a bit stupid .

In hoping to get one of these ,and was going to leave it on my TV stand , now it looks like that's not an option unless I want to go blind being so close to the TV.

Looks like an extension cable for the controller or a long HDMI cable is needed.

I was going to a longer HDMI cable would be needed

For anyone worried about the length of the controller cable, there's a host of 3rd party controllers coming on the market with longer cables. Nyko has just released a wireless one -

The short cable is something to do with Nintendo wanting to replicate the closeness people had to the TV back in the old days

They could do that by sitting close to the TV by choice.

That's a bit odd: 9ft cables for when we had the luxury of 21" tvs, 5 foot cables for our 55" today.

Can I just mention that an RP3 with a suitably designed case would be a far better device than this mini NES.... Still want a NES Mini Classic anyway!
I'll be checking the Argos site in the am!

Click and collect on Smyths is worth a go from 5am onwards, Argos about the same time too
