Sometimes you can get Guinness sliotars in presentation boxes. Got one for an american relative years ago. he loved it. It ticks the boxes.

Our local TD is Lowry.

Nobody knows how Lowry does it, but he will get anyone a medical card. You don't even have to ask for it. Spend five minutes in Lowry's company, and an envelope with a harp drops through your letterbox.

Civil servants love him. At one stage, they were leaking big local announcements to him before the government TDs in the constituency got wind of them. So Lowry would ring the newspaper and 'announce' a bigger budget for the local hospital, for example.

The old TV documentary series Hands would be a good one, if you can find reasonably priced DVDs.

(Last I heard they were being released directly by the producer but were very expensive, but RTE may have done a more commercial release since)

This is the best idea if they are from a place that gets cold in winter.
When Dublin Woolen Mills were in business (beside Halpenny Bridge) I saw a USA visitor buying about a dozen large scarfs, the type you could wrap around your neck and head.

If they're...highbrow...a good book or 2 about Ireland or Tipperary, history, geography etc.

If not, something very small but tasteful enough to be displayed, crystal, a nice clock etc.

Otherwise, just grab the Aran jumper, CD of trad music and sliotar stuff, it'll go into a drawer in the States until St. Patrick's Day.
