Looks like offshore winds for the next week or so,Lahinch was fired up this evening.

There was an actual A frame in the middle of the beach, these easterly winds are quite welcome.

Combined with an inshore powerful swell it's for an epic surf.

So I'll be keeping an eye on these easterly winds,it's a good sign for dry crispy day's...

    Made my morning!

Could be wrong, might be right. Its been a few years since the double barrel winters of snow, so not the most over the top thing to forecast.

Its quite depressing to get this when its useless to us.

They want the 2010/2011 one to see if it was in line with what happened I.e. Was the snow fest predicted in advance

Yippee! Accu Weather has just issued its winter forecast and the great news is that Britain & Ireland are in for another mild and wet winter. Frequent storms. A lot of wind. A lot of rain. The Atlantic storms should keep any decent cold from our shores. Flooding problems likely. These guys have been on the money the past few years with their winter forecasts. Umbrellas and wellies at the ready so! :D:cool:

Mild wet winters can have their own peculiar little quirks though!

    Here ya go

Here is what MT wrote in september 2010 regarding the winter of 2010-11

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=68190616

On the 15th of november 2010 , a full 2 weeks before Arklow had a month of lying snow ,measured by me in my yard at around 19 inches on the 23rd Dec 2010 and similar up in Wicklow Town and in lots of Dublin and the East coast :D MT went into more detail :

Later in january he was still optimistic of more (but it was not to be) , on jan 11th 2011 he posted this :

Thanks a mill.. Reading back gives a shiver down the spine. You gotta hand it to MT, he was on the money, from memory he was on the money for the last couple of mild winters too. Fingers crossed!

Wow. That was a remarkable forecast for 2010/11. In September

    hats off to MT.

Seeing how right MT got it for the 2010 winter, but how wrong he got it for the Summer, makes me unsure of what to believe!

Wait and see if this Scandinavian high keeps up!

On netweather his forecast was less intense. Basically cold late Nov to mid Dec. I'll stick with this one.

Great to be back. Love this time of year. Roll on the snow and cold.

Good news to see this correspond to Peter's winter outlook.

I especially like the fact at how good the ECM predicted last year's general zonal flow theme. Obiviously as Gavin states, it doesn't mean it will be correct for this one, but we have some hope. :)

I wonder if these will be backed up by the Met Office's Glosea5 model.

Polar vortex will have lift off before the end of October according to latest FI runs. Doesn't look like a particularly strong vortex start, certainly not compared with last year - on the other hand obviously pure FI so who knows...

1st/2nd November is looking cool, could be first wintry showers on mountains in eastern areas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,196 ✭✭✭pad199207

Astonishing amounts of blocking portrayed on recent models, start of November could be interesting for coldies! Still probably too soon for serious cold I'd imagine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭Hooter23

No doubt the high pressure will be gone just when the proper cold arrives in mid November...We shall see

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,196 ✭✭✭pad199207

Certainly could end up being the case Hooter. But the trend is there for a fairly blocked scenario and if the current predictions follow through into November I have a feeling a certain boards weather thread is going to become very busy!

I have this feeling, and it rarely happens, that this winter is gonna deliver at least one potent easterly. since mid September we've had mostly easterly sourced weather after a Mediterranean style first half of September. Something very different about the lead up to this winter.
