    Get on your bike with Portumna Cycling Club on Sunday 7th of August and join The Aughty Challenge for a fun 15km family cycle with refreshments along the way. For more experienced and adventurous cyclists take part in a 55k or 110k scenic route around the Sliabh Aughty Mountains all in aid of Children’s Cancer Charity Hand in Hand. This event promotes healthy recreation and will help support families affected by childhood cancer and the impact on their lives.

    The Aughty challenge is an annual charity fundraising event organised by Portumna Cycling Club in aid of local causes. This year, the Challenge is supporting Hand in Hand Children’s Cancer Charity is a non-profit organisation based in Galway since 2006 that supports families who are affected by childhood cancer throughout Ireland. Their aim is to alleviate some of the stress, anxiety and practical difficulties faced by families who have a child undergoing treatment for cancer, through the provision of practical home care services and emotional support. Each year in Ireland up to 250 children are diagnosed with cancer. Last year, they opened Ireland’s first dedicated National Children’s Cancer Support Centre in Oranmore, Co. Galway. Hand in Hand receive no government funding and rely and operate solely on voluntary fundraising.
