Got it folks. I really had hoped it wouldn't come to this but ah well, seems everyone's not as reasonable as me. Parking will nilly here I come.

It's not just that. Other posters are right. Don't get drawn into an argument with people knocking. Just say that there is a car parked across 2 spaces, shrug your shoulders and say you'll move your car when the Opel is parked properly. Say the same thing to everyone that calls. If the same person calls on different nights don't answer the door to them the second time. They need to get into the habit of speaking to the lady with the Opel not to you and you need to train that into them.

Do not say you'll move your car , it's a communal spot.

To keep the peace I'd move the car if the opel parked correctly. Obviously the opel is not going to move so it's a moot point. A concession to help keep the peace and focus the issue on the opel owners parking.

It's not keeping the peace , it's bending over backwards and taking it from your neighbours.

It's not. As long as the opel owner parks properly there's a spot for the OP to park in that keeps everyone happy. That's all I said. I'm specifically saying don't change what you're doing until opel lady parks properly. That's the opposite of bending over backwards, we must have different views on the meaning of the phrase. Once (if) the opel lady starts parking properly then go back to parking where you used to. That's hardly bending over backwards either, that's called compromise.

This sounds like a group of owner occupiers, if it is I'd much rather get on with my neighbours. You never know when you might need their help with something. I don't see the benefit in pissing people off for no reason.

Each person has an equal right to the spaces, why would he move when a neighbour demands that he does?

If you read the thread you'll see that the Opel is going to readjust their parked car which means the OP doesn’t have to move. I think you're having an argument with yourself here.

No, by moving at all, you are conceding that they "own" the spaces. Moving only suits now, what if Opel gets another car and wants her space back? They have all decided that they all have 2 cars whereas OP has one. OP has been too nice, guarantee you if someone else moved in, the'd start as they mean to go on and park in the Communal Space. OP has kept the peace too much.

I dont think they are the kind of people you need to get on with, or that you will get on with - you will get on with them as long as you do their bidding. Why then, is the heap of junk Ka left sitting there and she's not moving it for man nor beast. She is probably in the "clique" where Opel Woman is not, so despite them both being equally awkward and wasting spaces, all blame is pushed on Opel woman.

Also, if they knocked in once, or if they corner you on the way out, I'd go as far as to tell them that you wont be discussing it again, they are communal spaces, best to take it up with the council if they have an issue.

I'd rather get on with my neighbours, but I'd be taking no crap from them, if that meant I did not get on with them, its an awful pity, but compromise goes two ways.

    I don't see the point.

If OP is parked in space E and the Opel is across A and B, and another neighbour (Tom) comes along...

If OP says I will move from E to B if B is free, and then Tom can park in space E - all he is doing is inserting himself back into the situation. He's saying space E belongs to Tom. He's saying it's a three-way dispute between Opel driver, OP, and Tom. Tom is going to say, "no, leave me out of it. you stop parking in my space and sort things out with the Opel driver yourself"

If OP says, "I parked in E because E was free. Your problem is with the Opel blocking two spaces", OP is saying it is not OP's problem, it is a problem for everyone on the street as he should have done from the start.

buy a clamp and clamp her car when ever she parks across two spaces. It might escalate the situation in the short term but if she wants to behave like a Cnut by inconveniencing you then you should return the favour.

I'm guessing the clamp would only have to be used maybe twice before she starts behaving on. Maybe three or four times if she's a slow learner.

If I remember correctly it's 6 houses and 11 spots. 3 houses have 2 cars, Opel house has 1 car but takes 2 spots, one house has 1 car and a declared off road car permanently occupying a spot and OP had 1 car but now has 2. There's still 11 cars and 11 spots. Opel taking 2 spots and Ka taking a spot are the issues.

What happened that grass verge that could kind of be used as a spot? Any chance Ka could use that?

    I meant spaces.

the whole thing has blown up because they have all decided they have 2 spaces each and by parking around the corner or whatever, the OP has only taken one (despite having 2 cars)

yeah, if a neighbour comes around and says, "you're parking in one of my spaces", ask why they get two spaces when there aren't two spaces for everyone...

You're correct. She's had a car from when we first moved in years ago but I only bought a car in June of this year. At that time no-one was using the space beside Opel Fruit and it had been unused for a long long time. I started to park there and then the antics started.

If you can imagine 8 houses on a terrace. Two at the end have driveways, the rest of us use 11 spaces which are just in front of the row. So the spot I park in, is a few steps away from my front gate. I've illustrated it badly below. The red spot to the left is the one my partner parks in, the one to the right is the one which used to be empty but is now double parked across. Obviously he illustration is terrible (the joys of MS Paint) but those 11 parking spots are evenly spaced.

Opel fruit feels hard done by because its"her"space that has been affected by you buying the car.

its human nature to hold onto to what we have and she had laid claim to this spot.Is she a house owner or renting.I am presuming she is the owner and she is thinking of resale value of the house.Having two spots to park will make the house a lot more attractive.

The problem is she doesn't own the spots, they have not been assigned to her property and until the spaces are numbered no one has a right to any space. You won't get this through to your neighbours because they all think they own two spaces and opel fruit is the only one whose space is under threat because she doesn't have two cars. She is reserving the spot in case in the future she or someone living in her house gets another car because she doesn't want to be in the situation OP is in now,i.e. getting grief no matter where the second car is parked.

I don't know what the solution is.Even if you number the spaces how do you decide who gets two spaces.

    can you block her in...
when she parks across two spaces park right across behind her so she cant get out without coming to ask you to move...

then politely tell her that as long as she takes two spaces you will continue to park like that.... then each time it happens tell her you will move it in a minute.. and that minute gets a lot longer every time it happens....

If op blocks her in, he's making it about just her and him. If op just takes another space if it's free, it's making it all of their problem.

Let one of the others block her in.

The thing op has to do is persevere and keep taking the other spaces and break the mentality for the rest of them that they own the spaces. Just like breaking any bad habit, just make the new habit not to think of any soace as belonging to anyone.

but OP has already backed down from confronting all of the neighbors... and doesn't seem keen to pursue that option....

No I think the new assertive OP said he's going to keep parking in any available space and sod them all after that

To the cheapskates who park in and around on Church Road in East Wall every morning, residents have to park there too and would rather not walk halfway down the road after heading out in the car in the morning.

I started to park there and then the antics started.

First I want to say thanks for the thread, between opel fruits ex, the skip, the fake opel fruit and everything else, it's had more plot twists than Fair City!:D

If I recall the deleted photo from your first post correctly, there's a massive green in front of the houses. So I would do this.

If there is a space free, take it and ignore the neighbours. They've all shown they're inconsiderate at this stage, so I wouldn't worry about them at all.

If there is no free parking space, park on the green in front of your house. (Try not to spin your wheels to stop it getting mucky)

If opel fruits space is ever free, make sure you park like she does in it.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Well nothing major to report. I've been parking in the spot between her and the neighbour for a few weeks now without any incident. Not sure what's happened but there seems to have been a change of attitude..... unless she's messing with my head.
While I come home and the space is 95% free, I have been getting the below on Fridays. I can live with that though and am amused by the silliness of it.

I reversed my car last week into our wheelie bin. It got wedged between the car and the wall. The car had a huge dent in it. The wall collapsed and the bin was barely marked.
