What beer are we drinking this week? Episode 3

Got my Paddy box from Treaty today, so far I've tried the Cream ale and the pale ale, Pale ale is crisp with a little bit of bitterness on the finish, really nice beer.
The cream ale is lighter than I expected, little bit sweet and very smooth, very easy to drink, a bit too easy really, a winner for me.

I got mine this afternoon as well. Was planning to sample a few tonight but spotted Hell's Gate in the shop and picked up a bottle. Wonder how long the switch to cans is going to take them?

Also noticed it's impossible to get the big bottles of White Gypsy beers now. I've been craving their German-style doppelbock since the new year but it's not even in the range on their website any more.

Love Hell's gate, you'll certainly like these 2 since you like HG.

Like Hells Gate, I hope Thomond makes it into a can at some stage too. Looking forward to trying the new 1/37th in comparison.

That was always a beer they'd let off periodically, moreso than the dubbel, the stout or the APA. Could be out into hibernation altogether now. A shame cos it's a daycent beer.

Just trying it now, not as bitter as Thomond at all, it's tastes like what I imagine a smithwicks with a Guinness head head would be like.
Very impressed with the first 3 from the box so far.

I don't know if it's the beer or the glasses I enjoy more. Picked up about a dozen branded Belgian beer glasses recently and some of them are works of art.

I started getting glassware from around Christmas, and have picked up pieces from my preferred breweries. It's nice to be able to match them up with the beers, even if it makes no difference to the beer.

In Belgium, I had a barman profusely apologise because they didn't have the glass for the beer I ordered.

Happens here all the time with Guinness. Do not underestimate the psychological impact of giving your mate a Guinness in your sole pint glass in the new house that's a Carlsberg glass.

That being said, I have a thing for grabbing auld glasses when I come across them.

Have a load from the early 90s that I've pilfered over time. They're so thin and brown it's gas.

Pulled the trigger on a Perfect Draught machine last week, should have it next week, so trying out a few of the beers on it, Tripel Karmelit is an outstanding beer, one that I think having 10 draught pints on hand in the kitchen could lead to divorce.
Little bit spicy, has a hint of cloves and caramel. Small bottles are enough.

Had one of those days with an interview and college and a conversation about Thursday pints in O'Connell's and the Swan got me hankering for some Guinny.

Had to head up to Spar to grab some. Not gonna lie. It was like milk.

It's the simple things sometimes.

Third Barrel Makin' Bacon Maple Bacon Porter. It's surprisingly good. You're immediately hit with a strong smell of maple syrup, but the initial flavour is chocolate, which gives way to a rich maple syrup flavour at the end. The bacon is vaguely and only occasionally there in the background, but to be honest they probably could have gotten away with not adding it at all.

Got mine yesterday evening but, as it was a school night, I limited myself to the two. The stout was really nice, but I found the cream ale to be awful. Just no flavour to it, and a funny smell too! Most of it went down the sink :pac:

Ah jaysus, I get the smell alright, it's a bit different, certainly won't be to everyones taste, which means all the more for me....

Giving the O'Hara's Nitro Stout a sup now and have to say it's decent. No bells and whistles, just a solid Nitro.

I grabbed a Veltins in SV the last day and had it last night after my fill of stout. God it was a lovely to have a clean uncomplicated pilsner in the fridge.

Friday pizza has just arrived in now from Avoca, so out comes the Body Riddle for accompaniment, and there'll be a Weisenoher Pils right behind it I reckon.
