I don't really see the point of picking specific beers when they'll only be on two at a time. Waiting for particular ones to arrive doesn't seem like the best use of one's drinking time, but each to their own. Good luck everyone!

Yea I know what you mean. Ive a list of 40 odd beers Id like to try highly likely I'll have about 10 of them! My main concern now is seeing so many amazing Imperial Stouts  I'll be back in the hotel by 7pm :D

What time are people going to arrive at on the Saturday? I'm staying out in a friends place in Essex and we are thinking of rocking up at 1pm. If we leave earlier the train gets us in at 11am.

Guess I'll see how the queues are tomorrow.

A chap who's working both days said they expect big queues on Saturday (this explains the post on their website re arriving an hour in advance).

I'll be there before 330pm tomorrow, not expecting a big crowd that early but by 5pm it'll be v busy with the after work crowd. Venue is huge though. Cant wait

Believe there is a Cherry Sour on the way, which I'm looking forward to.

Something went seriously wrong with it. Tastes like porter with a dash of Kirsch in it. Not sour what-so-ever.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; they don't know how to brew bad beer in Kinnegar :)

Going to try it this evening, but that does not sound like my thing at all.

    What?

    Yellow belly castaway.

    Do you disagree?

I wasn't gone on it when I first tried it. I wanted more sour and more cherry but it has grown on me. It's mildly sour. To someone who's never had a sour beer it would be sour.
It's light bodied, dark, mildly cherry and mildly sour. I like it.

Is that the Yellow Belly black cherry sour ye're discussing? Mortis?

I tried it in the Underdog on Dame Street a few days ago and thought it was gorgeous.

Had a bottle the other night, really nice beer. Should've bought more but it was the last one on the shelf.

Had a can of Fresh Prince of Kildare there. It's much nicer than I remember it being on tap in The Brew Dock a few months ago. Smells terrific too.

Lough Gill MacNutty, a macadamia nut brown ale. Didn't overly get much macadamia but it was another's very drinkable and enjoyable brown ale.

Best sour in Ireland, definitely yes. Best sour going? Absolutely not, its not a patch on most belgian sours. Castaway is more of a berliner weisse, Portlands Breakside brewings passionfuit sour is leagues better.

What are you into? Try Beer Authority in Manhattan or if you're really adventurous go to Torst in Brooklyn (right beside a subway stop). Both have plenty of beers you won't get here, but Torst's selection is a bit more hardcore. Bring plenty of money too. NY is expensive.

    Thanks for that,
Not really into any one type of beer as I like to chop and change and love trying something different where I can..I like places where I can get a good sample tray..

The best value you'll find is probably in one of the taprooms at the smaller breweries. I thought Other Half and Strongrope had fantastic beers, great varieties to try, and the owners/brewers were happy to chat away and show me around. Other Half in particular is worth going to just for the list of IPAs. The taprooms will seem great value anyway after you've had a pint in a regular pub.

Brooklyn is great, but unless you have a way to get in with the staff, you'll just be in a cycle of drink/queue/drink/queue if it's in any way busy(which it always seems to be).

Edit: I was trying to think of the Blind Tiger until I saw it above. Definitely visit here, it's where a lot of the brewers go after work, so you know it's good.

Good Beer off license has an incredible selection. Lots of local one offs. Plus they have a few taps which seems a bit weird (in a good way) having a beer while in an offy.

The Fraunces Tavern at the tip/bottom of the island near the financial district is definitely worth a visit. Old historical building surrounded by skyscrapers. Lots of history too. Big connection with George Washington with a museum located in the building. Great decor and great food too. It's owned by the Porterhouse.

I would second that. If you're in the area McSorely's is worth a visit; it's two blocks away. It's not like any Irish pub you've ever been in, it's more like an Irish bar in NY from the late 1800s. They only have two beers: light ale and dark ale, both served from barrels. Unusually, you have to order two beers at the same time.

Great recommendations there from n97 mini. I'll add my tuppence worth. NY for beer, especially good beer is very very expensive. Probably talking 8 dollars, not inc tip for an American Pint. I'll keep my recommendations to very central places (minutes from Times Square). The first three below will all have a very good selection of local NYC beer

Hellcat Annies (45th and 10th Avenue). Happy Hour between 3-6pm, 2$ off booze.

    Beer Culture - (45th between 10th and 9th Avenue). Happy hour 11am - 7pm. 5$ specials.

    Beer Culture - (45th between 10th and 9th Avenue)

If you are looking for good value, - Rudy's Bar & Grill (Between 44th and 45th, and 9th Avenue.) All pints between 3-5$ and they give you a free hot dog with every beer, if you ask for it. This is a proper dive bar but definitely worth a look.

Dogfish spiced Ale with saffron for me.
