Primary medical cert and tax exemptions

Hi all,

Looking for any info on my mother obtaining a primary medical cert and claiming tax releif as a disabled passenger.

At the moment she has disabled drivers parking permit.
She has given up driving and now my father drives her anywhere she needs to go, he is her primary carer.

What I'd like to know is it possible for my dad to claim any tax exemption on his car? He doesn't plan on buying a new car but an exemption on motor tax for his existing car (2.5 on cc tax) would be a huge benefit to them.

Please Colm, where is this site??? My husband to whom the Cert applies, has passed away, and I haven't paid the tax since. What do I do?

www.citizensinformation.ie. Do a search for Primary Medical Cert and you should get all the info on it.

Will your dad be the driver of the car now? It might be beneficial to change ownership to him, nobody would be liable for arrears in this case.

I take it your husband had his own PMC for his own condition and this was completely seperate to your mothers situation?
