Ok, this is weird and has s*** me up a bit

I'm an occasional 4chan user, I go on it maybe once a week. Today I find im banned from all boards, Reason : Posting child pornography :eek::eek::eek:
Ban was implemented 3 days ago.

So yeah, im not a paedo so lets get that out of the way.

    Im guessing 3 things
    1. Someone is using my wifi. I live in apartment complex and I have a UPC/Virgin router.
    2. My house mate is a paedo. Weird guy, keeps to himself, on the computer all day long, but id like to think no 1 is more likely than no 2...
    3. Something do with the IP itself? could the same IP have been used somewhere else in the world

Id appreciate any comments. Im going to reset my router and see if it changes the IP.

The only secure computer is one that has zero connection to the outside world.

What occurs to me is that the OP may have a dynamic IP (as opposed to a static IP) and his ISP could have given him the same IP that day that they previously gave someone else, and the previous user posted the porn.

Is your wifi secure? My guess is that someone gained access to your 4chan account. If someone did get access via your router they'd still need your login details for 4chan..

I don't have an account, it just lists my IP as being banned and yes wifi is secure with alphanumeric code that came with the router. but im well aware that tech savvy people can hack wifi pw easy enough

I just rebooted router and it didn't change the IP. I have had an account with the isp since January and the ban occurred 3 days ago, so I don't think it would have anything to do with previous customer.

Is it possible to change IP within router settings or do i need to ask the IP if they can change it?

if you are using the password as set by your BB provider. Then change it asap. They are created based on an algorithim which can be compromised. Always use your own STRONG password. After that......

If you signed up in January then your could be on DSLite. You dont get an IP address but in fact share one with multiple customers.

Is your address listed in the modem a v4 or v6?

If its v6 then this is just another demonstration of why DSLite breaks things. Virgin can turn it off.

Its fine to say that, cause Eircom(who are inept) did it a decade ago so clearly everybody still does it now.

Chances are you are using a shared IP.

    For quick example https://seeit.org/eircom/

Set your own password always...best way to do it

You're referencing a 12+ year old flaw, really no longer relevant.
