I completely agree with her. It would be different if it was on a main street or in a shop/restaurant/school etc. But anywhere where it is perfectly socially acceptable for men to go topless (such as beaches/parks/gardens etc), it should be acceptable for women as well. Most women probably won't want to, especially at the start in front of male friends/family (due to body issues/embarrassment), but if a woman is comfortable doing so, then of course she should be able to.

How is it that most western countries not only allow it, but it is the norm, and people don't seem to have a heart-attack related to it?

Is it really an issue? I can't think of one man that would have a problem with a woman being topless.

She was absolutely right. It's so funny in Spain on holidays to see people's attitudes to their and other people's bodies. Topless woman at every beach, kids running around nude and no one bats an eyelid. Why should it be different here and why should there be a rule for men and a rule for woman.

If I was at that music festival and I stumbled forward and to break my fall I touched a topless woman's breasts. I'd probably be charged with something.

I was in Portugal last week and there was a little girl about 2 or 3 running around a pool with nothing on. The mother wasn't long being told to put something on the child by a lifeguard. I must admit I wasn't comfortable with a naked child running around.

I've never seen a topless woman at am Irish beach and believe me I've been looking. Maybe it's just around the posh eastern beaches that happens.

I'm not really a "blame" person. "Blame" never solves the problem. To me, solving the problem is standing by and encouraging those trying to address it. in this case, I stand with the girl in question. And had I been present, I would have have stood with her (and left the festival with her).

That's the problem though. Not having a dig at you but it's been driven into us here in Ireland the UK that a 2 or 3 year old child playing with no clothes on is somehow dirty or sexual. The parent didn't care because they probably weren't raised with the same hang ups we have. That's my point they are much more body comfortable and not every nude situation has to be sexual.

We've been to clothes optional beaches in Denmark during last summer have to say it was no big issues even with 2 kids 4 and 7 ,
Even at a shop away from the beach you had women in there 60s to 12 waking around topless while shopping didn't think it was a big deal ,
Here for whatever reason it's still considered a major taboo
