Damn it anyway, that crash with Nibali & Henao ruined a great climax. Though maybe now it'll be a different kind of climax.

Crazy, Spaniard holding up one finger there to say it's just one guy to the others and they sit looking at him as if they don't want a medal.

Majka wasn't doing any work when with Nibali and Henao so I'm not overly disappointed that he didnt win gold.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭Eamonnator

I think Dan Martin was 13th

Very nearly a very happy house here in northern Poland! The edge of the seat is well and truely fecked after that!

That was a ferociously tough race. Great to watch, loads of drama and a great finish

That was one of the greatest one day races I have ever seen. If the UCI needs any further proof that smaller teams are the way to go this shows it. Delighted for GVA.

What a ride by Alaphilippe, he bridged across to the lead group then clearly crashed on the descent, although the BBC commentators didn't seem to realise it. Got back on the bike and back into the chase group and finished 4th. Great race

Real shame for Nibali & Henao. If the 3 arrived together on the flat run-in there's no way they'd have been caught. They also looked the 2 strongest. Any footage from above I wonder of how the crash happened?

Otoh then their pain is someone else's triumph so chapeau to the lads who medalled, especially GVA hanging in there on a course obviously tilted more to the climbing fraternity. With Dan tiring late in San Sebastian I thought he mightn't be quite there in terms of peak form but still a fine result.
