I'm heading to Clonmel this Sunday. I want to do an 80-100 km route, ideally taking in Seskin Hill, and maybe some other climbs in the area. Good scenery would be good too. Anyone got some good route suggestions? Thanks

Try this, Mountain Road - Rathgormack - Carrick on Suir - Seskin Hill - Mahon Falls - The MawMaw - Ballymac - Powers the Pot - Clonmel

Just over the 100km and generally nice scenery with a fair bit of climbing takes in most of the Sean Kelly Route

You could do something like this: https://www.strava.com/routes/5916101

Plenty of climbing and takes in seskin (why.. oh why?!)

This: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/13086677 is the Sunday stage of the Suir Valley race (this weekend) so just to be aware that it's on. Race starts at 11 on Sunday.

The Sean Kelly 160km route used to take in Seskin Hill (its been replaced by Tickincor since), as well as some of the other hills in the Comeraghs, so if you could find a route map of that you'll get an idea of where to go in the area.

    A route which could suit:
    Clonmel
    Carrick on Suir
    Seskin Hill
    Follow the road towards Dungarvan
Take the loop around Mahon Falls if you're feeling like the climb. Its a great one.
Go over the Mama Road which will bring you onto the Dungarvan-Clonmel road
Either take this road straight back to Clonmel or turn off at Ballymacarbery and go over Powers The Pot and and down the Mountain Road into Clonmel.

Should come in at about 100k I think, maybe a little longer. Pretty much all those roads are used in the Sean Kelly 160k route.

Also, Seskin Hill can be a bit tricky to find because its just a side road up the back of an estate, so try and make sure you've a way of finding it when you get to Carrick!

Edit: Beaten to it by cunavalos as I was typing it out!

The problem with Seskin and Mahon is getting to them on fairly soulless roads (for a solo spin); Carrick- Mahon Bridge, any part of Dungarvan-Clonmel road.

You'll be dreaming fondly of Seskin after this.... but there won't be a car in sight on most of it.

    good training road!

you could head for the Vee via Clogheen, drop down to Lismore (by the castle), back in the Dungarvan road and take a left at the Master McGrath monument - think it's in or around 100 km

not as tough as the aforementioned routes but scenic enough and not as remote

You are spoiled for choice and there are lots of options depending on what sort of a climber you are........

Personally, as a lot of the roads in the area are quite 'dead', I'd not load it up with heavy climbs, there are nice steady climbing routes that are still scenic. There are too many climbs to try to cover on one ride, so maybe let us know a bit more of what you like? Weather will play a part too - the mountain roads can be hard going in crap weather. Seskin may be iconic, but it is rarely 'enjoyable' in my opinion, due to its crappy surface.

You could always try to hook up with one of the clubs in Carrick/Clonmel and see if you can tag along on a route.

Clonmel to Clogheen, Vee descent to Lismore isn't enjoyable ime.

Go to Clogheen via Knocklofty & Newcastle and climb Shanrahan; come back via another small climb and Lismore.

There are a lot of ways from Lismore to Clonmel, via Master Mcgrath would be the last one I would do.
