Why is this joint charging so much then? Why is there not a government run alternative? I mean 4500 a week, times however many people they have in this facility, the costs must be outrageous.

As has been pointed out, it's not a flat, but a room in a residential care facility (are the Examiner hiring ex-Sindo writers?), who he refuses to engage with, the judge is an idiot because 'there is nothing being provided for him ' is clearly not true, he just refuses to engage with the supports being provided for him.

This bollox from his social worker baffles me however:

She said: “He was assaulting staff, smashing up the place, up on the roof of the unit, into cars. The fact that the boy is able to maintain his new residential placement without assaulting or abusive behaviour or without coming to attention of the Gardaí, to me — that is a huge improvement.”

Rather then the namby pamby hugs therapy that seems to be going nowhere it sound like they need to try a bit of 'kick up the hole therapy'.

Give him €20, a McDonalds voucher and a sleeping bag and wave him bye bye.
Oh wait, that's too good for the ball bag.

Well it costs about 80 grand a year to keep a prisoner in jail or about 1500 a week. I'd imagine a residential center for child offenders however has more intensive staffing for fewer numbers. It's never cheap to provide that kind of care.
