Over the last year I have received sporadic SMS messages from 0851640651 from someone calling themself Simone. Typically the message is "Hi, this is Simone xxxxxxxxxxxxx". No response when I replied asking who this is.

In recent weeks, the frequency of these SMS messages has dramatically increased and I have received several phone calls from this number (hangs up immediately).

    Anyone come across this before?

I have a suspicion this is a callbot of some description.

Ah yeas, that's Simone. She wants to send you naked pictures of herself as you do, and for you to do likewise - at which point she'll blackmail you or else publish it to you facebook timeline, tag you in it so all your friends will see, etc... (emm... or something similar). Sounds legit really.

Just blacklist the number with whatever feature is on your phone to do so.

Not sure if the Irish mobile operators provide for somewhere to report a suspicious number. They could do the state some service if they did. ie. if they had many reports about a particular number they could investigate, and if not a false positive then blacklist the number and their device from calling or otherwise being a nuisance to their customers. Probably a legal nightmare for them though.

There is also a possibility of someone's online mobile account being hacked and the perpetrator using web texts to generally be a nuisance to others. What generally happens is that the actual victim (owner of the mobile phone) suffers dogs abuse from irate persons who have received texts from their number. This was very prevalent when there was the old "You have just won the O2 lottery - just click here to claim" texts. However in your case there is a phone call as well so less likely to be this i'd guess.

She seems legit, if a little attractive.

Someone must be spoofing her number somehow or her mobile device could be compromised.
