Surely if he did wear a just-in-case parachute and he landed in the net on it it would break his back - or ribs depending.

I will post a link, there is always a link somewhere.

"If I wasn't stupid, I would be nervous," the compact, muscular athlete said with a grin as he sat near his landing spot earlier this week.

So does he have a backup chute

I don't know for sure, but I agree with looksee above: it would be hazardous as he hits the net.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

    ****ing idiot.

    Correct, I couldn't agree more.

I cannot believe the ignorance of some people here. Wishing death on a guy doing what he loves, and dreaming big? Just f*ck off.

I recall many people branding Felix Baumgartner an idiot and a worldwide broadcast of a suicide jump but it turned out to be one of the most impressive achievements in modern times, perhaps of all time. If we didn't have people trying to risk their lives and going against conservatism and ignorant criticism then we'd never progress and we'd be still stuck in the dark ages.

Fox News will be showing it. If they change their minds at last minute, we'll know why.

Oh right, so if nobody had done completely suicidal and idiotic stunts for the sake of Internet fame then the wheel would still be a figment of imagination?

Not at all. But if everybody conformed to the constant criticism and bickering coming from people hating on them and on what they are doing my then some of the greatest minds and some of the most successful people would never have amounted to anything. F1 drivers and Moto GP riders are some of the most phenomenal athletes in the world. They're risking their lives everyday as well all for a thing they love. No different to this guy. But no it's only cool to hate on stuntmen.

First off, I don't hate ON anyone. I don't really hate anyone so hating ON someone is just strange.

Secondly, if you think that F1 and moto whatever are the people that take the risks to shape the world then you're just funny.

In a cute cuddly way, of course.

The dude has a wife and a young child. He's pretty much playing Russian roulette with all the chambers filled. He's not dreaming big, he's doing something ****ing stupid.

Are they showing it live (well with the delay). In the pub can't get home to dodgy box, is Fox News only channel to see it in pub?

F1 drivers race in cars which have been more engineered towards safety than any other vehicle. This guy is taking a huge risk for fame; perhaps. There will be no scientific breakthrough from him hitting the ground or not. Pure showbiz. Nothing to be upset by. Best of luck to him

He will be able to be given a parachute by another skydiver until he gets to 5000 feet. So he can decide whether to go ahead or abort.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,520 ✭✭✭learn_more

Would it not be wise to take the parachute just in case. Would be a very stupid way to die if it went wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,218 ✭✭✭✭B.A._Baracus

    So when does this start?
Op says 1am but is that the start time of the show/event or the actual stunt

    **edit**
Show is 1 hour long. So... Expect the stunt to happen 40 minutes in?

Does this guy have a death wish or what, this isn't something you can really practice is it.

I wonder how likely he would be to figure it is going wrong until it is too late even for a parachute. Hope it ends well but he is an idiot. Far too many ways this can lead to death out of his control.

If he survives, net profits will skyrocket. If he dies, net profits will be in free fall. :o

So he is wearing a parachute now?
Don't really know how to take that. I mean it's good for him and who wants to witness a man bloody kill himself. But then why market it as without a parachute.

There saying that the screen actors guild insisted he wear an emergency chute or they wouldn't allow their members work on the show. It's his decision if he pulls it or not. They only announced it a few hours ago.

Might want to wait a few minutes to see if it works first. Although if the guy misses this net you might pick up the one from the show second hand.

parachute a hindrance he claims. A complication he never envisioned.
Parachute is like a back breaker move in wrestling.

Sadly guys this is what American TV is all about. I think I am watching the new York region of Fox and I am surprised that there has not been a lot of fast food ads yet. They usually are everywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,792 ✭✭✭2Mad2BeMad

Makes me appreciate the low amount of ads we get over here haha
    Even in their sports games
theirs a bloody ad for something every 2 mins
