ID this window part (pic attached)

Can anyone help me id this U shaped bracket, I was told its a part of a sash window but I can't find anything like it.

As you can see from the pic, its clever way of securing a timber backrest to a 1" s/s rail on a boat. I'm looking to do the same.

Looks like a vintage receiver from a vented sash handle.

Sash handle had 2 slots that locked either side of the pin, giving a vented opening
arrangement.

Yes that could do it, I'm guessing that since its polished brass it shouldn't corrode.
