Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi

I got your advice on here about 4 years ago when I was changing my car. I got a Mazda 6, which I love, and it's been such a good runner. You wouldn't believe the number of times I've told my (non car) friends about the help and advice I got on here from you.

So here I am asking again.

The old Mazda is a bit dinged and a recent big scrape down the passenger side, with dents is making me think it's time for a change. This time I would like to move away from the saloon type car, and maybe go for a smaller engine.

I drive 5km to and from work every day. City driving. In and around Dublin town. And the odd long drive to the West.

    So I'm thinking of a 1.2 or 1.6 engine.
I made a list of cars I like the look of, and a friend of my brother's laughed me out of it, said they were all girly cars, with no resale value, and I should rethink.

ha! I am going back to you - my Boards.ie buddies who will tell me the real deal.

So the list I have is:

Citroen c4 Cactus (I like the look of it)
Fiat 500 - i could really see myself in this, I have a son of 6, it's OK in the backseat for a kid?
    Mazda cx5 (dear?)
I'd LOVE a mini... country man? But I hear they are dear
Or a Nissan Juke, or maybe a pulsar

So I"m going for style and form here as you can gather.
Budget wise I don't really want to spend more than 10k.

AND I'm wondering if I might get a higher spec good deal up north??

    Over to you now.
    What do you think?

    Prius

    Honda Civic saloon 1.8 petrol

Or for something really different 1.8 Alfa Romeo 159

Honda Civic looks nice, but the rest don't inspire me at all.
Are you saying that the fiat / mini / nissan list isn't a goer so?

I wouldn't say they are a goner but there's better out there. What about a fiat panda? Might be better if you have a child.

    Check out a Lexus CT200h.

Or for something totally left field, a Kia Soul.

Edit: probably above what you want to spend.

or just get the Mazda fixed and fall back in love with it.
unless it's very old it's worth fixing.

Personally I loved my Fiat 500 (was the 1.3 diesel)
A hoot to drive, was reliable for the three years I owned it and suprisingly roomy in the back. My enormous brother in law even fitted in the back seat.

Downsides? Not the manliest car in the world if that matters.

You know that's not a bad idea, from experience
