Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Based on the penalties awarded in the Stoke vs City game, it's safe to say we got rid of Skrtel at the absolute ideal time. They're finally cracking down on shirt-pulling and general grappling in the box.

I think it was only given to make up for not giving them one in the first half.

Can't see them cracking down on holding. Don't have the balls

Funny Pardew signing Benteke after the stick he gave him last season. I'm sure he'll be delighted for Benteke to dive and win a penalty this year.

Mane misses out, not surprising and definitely for the best not taking risks.

No moreno , that's good, Sturridge starts, that's good. No Mané, that's bad, hope Can gets some game time.

Surely we must be looking for a LB dropping Moreno for Milner shows clearly that Klopp knows there is a weakness there.

Way too early yet, City looked odds on after a few games last season.

Get a win today and Arsenal lose would be a good day for us. That isn't Arsenal specific for sensitive souls, any rivals starting poorly is good for us, obviously!

I'm not saying United will win the league just that Mourinho has them set up well even in these early days. They look like a Mourinho team already and that doesn't mean they are the best thing ever. They haven't really been tested, so its just a short observation really. 2 good performances in their first 2 games mean nothing much in terms of long term success, I'm just saying that there are positive signs for United.

As I said we just need to worry about ourselves......

I would love us to try and get Maxwell from PSG for the year.

Kurzawa is the young left back who will be first choice for PSG this season and Maxwell is in the last year of his contract. Throw a couple of million to get him and he would be one of the best short term options we could get. He's 34, yes, but he's played at a very very high level throughout his career and is a natural fullback who can attack. He'd be a better option than Milner, wouldn't break the bank as he doesn't have long left, and gives us the stability in the position and can split time with Moreno if Klopp still wants him to play - and is an excellent role model for the guy as he'd be learning from one of the best left backs in Europe over the past decade everyday in training.

Unfortunately Maxwell never transfers to a club Zlatan isn't at, and there's absolutely no indication that they'd sell or he'd come...but it'd be one of the best realistic signings I could see us making

What next for milner though, can't see him starting midfield, as one of our homegrown players if he goes we will have to pay way over the odds for another

What could it mean? A beautiful bicycle kick winner in stoppage time?

Or a month out with saddle sores?

Problem started at right back not left back.

I wasn't talking about the goal I posted that before the goal.

Milner is playing the same role and getting into the same positions as Moreno high up the pitch and out of position ready for the counter attack.

Going to be one of those "34 shots 4 on target no goals" and "Oh **** another Sturridge injury and a red card for an important player" sort of game.

Nope, it meant Volks would score first.

    You can only laugh lads.

That chance should have been lost but nope, when your defenders are as shocking as ours nothing is ever lost.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭PaddyWilliams

The amount of poncing around is killing me. Passing here, passing there, passing no bloody where really. No end product to it all. All this going down the left is fruitless. Need a variation.

    Hopefully he's on his bike.

He has continued on where he left off last season setting up attacks for the opposition.

This is a game that shows everything thats wrong with the team. They're not playing to the managers instructions. Just doing their own thing... Klopp will kill them at half time.

Also I don't care what anyone says Moreno should be starting. We miss his pace on the left.

Also Sturridge is so slow... in everything he does.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

We're as bad around the opposition box as we are ours. Still a soft touch this season with no excuses either

Sturridge can't dart forward or track back, so what's the point of starting him? Has to be a luxury sub or part of a twin attack in those more open games like Man City. Agree about the lack of pace without Moreno but the whole side are in treacle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

Everyone has been poor apart from Lallana. Sturridge playing like Rooney & dropping deep for easy touches because he lacks pace to threaten in attack.

Slow in attack and no cover at all in midfield when the opposition attack. Too many cooks best way to describe attack. Shocking 1st half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Moreno is in the Liverpool team for his pace more so than his defending.

Also Firmino has never played well when Sturridge is on the pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,213 ✭✭✭shamrock55

If Brendan rodgers was producing this **** he would be lambasted from here to eternity

  • Registered Users Posts: 388 ✭✭LFC CONNAUGHTON

Without his pace Sturridge really just doesn't add enough to our attack, would much prefer to be playing Mane, Origi or Ings ahead of him. Milner is not suited to a left back role, he can't get a cross in so he's far too one dimensional, just passing the ball back to one of 3 attacking players afraid to make a run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,734 ✭✭✭Fowler87

Also Firmino has never played well when Sturridge is on the pitch.

Seem to stifle each other alright which is a worry. Need Origi on now. Could hook any of Coutinho, Firmino or Sturridge

Firmino plays well 1 out of 5 games whether sturridge is there or not, another useless fancy Dan fcuker

When our players aren't any better it's hardly surprising we're not doing any better on the pitch.

You don't beat Burnley with a system or with belief or whatever the ****. You beat them with millions of pounds worth of top class attacking players or, you try to be better than the thing they're already good at and have an immaculately drilled and higher quality defence.

We're still playing like we're the dogs bollocks, complete with arrogant defending. We're not good enough for that.
We're not pressing particularly well, but regardless, you can press your way out of a game where a team is going to sit deep.

Benitez would've had us less vulnerable, so we weren't getting tonked in games like this Stoke, Watford and West Ham in recent seasons, but he had the same problem and the same struggle to get results - a lack of goals being the cause then and the cause now.
Once in the past 15 years that hasn't been the case and that was with 2 of the 3 best strikers in the league side by side.

It's not panic stations yet either, and Can, Mane, the possibility of another CB or 2 as well as Origi featuring more are all things we have to see, but there's a reason why I pegged us for 6th and it's that we don't appear to have made the changes required to the squad to make a qualitative change in how we handle these kinds of games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,035 ✭✭✭✭J Mysterio

Clyne has been ****e so far this season but, really, you cant single anyone out?

    Whats going on?

People jokingly (i think) said we'd dp a typical Liverpool after the Arsenal result and lose to Burnley. Well...

    **** me.

Except he scores regularly enough that we can't afford to do without him.

Ideally he'd be one of a cluster of options for serious goal threats up front, but with 1 striker who's ever scored to any great degree and is probably now crocked, Lallana having no goalscoring pedigree, Coutinho's goalscoring tending towards the mercurial and Ings and Origi still not established, we're still struggling for goals.

It's pretty much the same old same old. We need a magic bullet. Nowadays his name is Mane and if he's not here or he can't fulfill that, we'll struggle to score goals in the quantity required.

You don't take off your best player. That way lies madness.

We just need to get an early goal.

These games are always a nightmare when you concede so early. Makes it easy for the opposition.
