What's eating this ornamental grass?

    Hi,
    what's eating this ornamental grass, no sign of slugs or anything on it?
    A local gardener said to cut back the damaged blades as can be seen in the pictures.

    That's a phormium which is normally as tough as leather. It may have been slug damage when the leaf was small and tender. Nothing generally touches a mature leaf but they are naturally prone to splitting at the ends.
    Cutting it back will get rid of the damaged leaf and cause no harm to the plant at all. Generally only cut phormiums to remove damaged leaves or when transplanting.
