Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's not so much his departure that people are talking about. It's more the obnoxious, overbearing way in which he stage managed the entire process.

Fairly typical of the way in which he has behaved throughout his career, in my opinion.

Can someone explain what happens if United win the EL tonight, who has a CL place next year or what exactly changes between them winning and losing or is it a case that if they win they're in and it has no affect on the rest of the PL teams?

If they win then Everton enter the EL at a later stage, possibly the group stage or more likely the last qualifying round.

    Leicester
Craig Shakespeare given the Leicester on a three year contract.

Southampton just sacked Claude Puel. After an 8th finish and a cup final. Seems kind of mental tbh.

It does at first glance, but then again they finished 6th last year. And his style of play didn't go down well with the fans.

And the spread of points is a bit misleading too... they were only 6 points clear of 17th, and 15 points behind Everton only one place ahead in 7th.

Finished 17 points worse off than last season. Hard to look at that as anything other than fairly disappointing.

Thats been rumoured since well before the end of the season, surprised they've took this long & didn't go for Marco silva

I'm also sort of surprised Marco Silva actually took the Watford job... would have thought he'd get offers from more ambitious clubs. Unless Watford have assured him they're not gonna make last seasons mistakes again.

In England? I'd say Watford are probably one of the more ambitious clubs in the PL going by the owners history, they got udinese champions league qualification.

Not sure what went on last season with them that you mention

Sorry, yes, of course - totally crossed some wires in my brain and for some reason was thinking of Hull rather than Watford! Never mind, nothing to see here :p

I think it boiled down to attitude and style of football. Lot of pretty reliable journalists on Twitter suggesting that the players didn't like his style of football or his training methods.

I reckon it was harsh - that's a pretty successful season that will be difficult to improve on, especially if they lose some key first team players again. Naturally, Everton and Southampton want to push into the top 6 and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that one could, but there's going to be fierce competition at that end of the league. In the mini-league outside the 6, any of Everton, Southampton, end-of-season Leicester, West Ham or even Newcastle would fancy their chances of being the best of the rest...

I mean, Fonte sold in January and Van Dijk injured meant they finished the season with Yoshida and Stephens... Not many teams could've handled that!!

But maybe they would be happier with a different style/approach and a lower finish? Doubtful tbh. Can totally see an attacking manager finishing 10th and being dropped in twelve months too.

There were lots of links to Thomas Tuchel a few weeks ago which definitely suggests that the club is favouring attacking style, high pressing, etc

Getting only 46 points this season after getting 63 last season must have been pretty disappointing though.

    Chelsea
At some point it's inevitable that Southampton will make a proper bad appointment for manager and fail to replace the players they sell every single year with better ones and they will struggle to stay in the league. They've done amazingly well the last few years to keep switching managers and keep selling their best players with little impact on the league position, but that's not tenable long term without it going badly wrong at least once.

I thought Tuchel would have been going to a "bigger" club than Southampton, he'll be well aware of the trend of Southampton selling their best 2 or 3 players every year and i think he'd be wise to turn that down.

Dortmund have a clear history of doing the very same and that didn't put him off going there. Of course they're a bigger club who regularly play in the CL so that helped, but it's nothing he's not used to. Even in his days at Mainz, he lost plenty of decent players like Schurrle and Fuchs only to replace them with mediocre ones.

    Chelsea
I'd say Tuchel is happy to take the money, handy earner for 2 or 3 years and if he does a decent job, it will be seen as a stepping stone club.
