Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

2006 Mazda 3 1.6 Diesel cutting out with plume of smoke

Maybe someone has see this before.

my 2006 Mazda 3 1.6 Diesel cutting out with plume of smoke when accelerating. serious rattle sound from engine like bottom end has failed.

When it happens it refuses to start again even up to 30 mins later. next day starts fine. runs a bit lumpy like there is a misfire. but plenty power above 2k rpm. No smoke really.

Garage replaced fuel filter and glow plugs and though it was fixed. 50 miles after picking it up the same issue occurred.

Tow truck collected and garage were able to reproduce the issue. Seems that oil level has increased above the max oil level. They are going to drain some oil and try to see if that is causing the issue.

How would the oil level be increasing? faulty injectors is the first guess. anything else to check before I shell out €500 on injector refurb?

Well serviced car with turbo and injector seals done last year.

OP here has a similar issue with a different type car but could be related all the same:

Only a guess it could well be a similar issue, it maybe DPF related where diesel is mixing with oil in your sump causing the oil level to rise.

yes DPF seems to be a a cause for many cars but I don't think the Mazda 3 has one?

The Mazda3 used the 1.6 110bhp PSA engine which may well have a DPF fitted.

I had a 2005 Ford Focus and 2006 Volvo S40 with the same engine and they both had a DPF fitted.

I'd say you have a badly leaking injector. Easy to do a quick check with a leak off test.

You sir have leaking injectors. Have a leak off test done by the garage.

    Edit: Mullingar got there first.
