Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi I'm thinking about my options for the future and I'm considering joining the Gardaí..I have almost fluent Irish, And I have experience as a volunteer with an English immersion course for Spanish students. I have a few questions..

Is the €23,000 a year wage a wage that you can live on?
What's the training like and how intense is it?
Are the resources and equipment really as poor as I've heard?
What are my chances of being accepted when I'm older?
How do you deal with the disrespect given?
    What's the daily life like?

    Thanks

No one answer to this, it's a personal thing, some can live very happily on it others couldn't depends on your lifestyle and cost of rent/mortgage and as new recruits can be stationed anywhere this needs to be factored in.

What's the training like and how intense is it?
Again another thing personal to each person, some find it easier or harder than others, see http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=181&Lang=1 for more information on the course

Are the resources and equipment really as poor as I've heard?
Drop in to your local Garda station and explain you are considering joining and see what they have to hand

What are my chances of being accepted when I'm older?
on this page there is a link with notes to candidates which should set out age restrictions when applying, http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=12252 getting in is about meeting competencies once you are within the minimum and maximum ages and show you meet these competencies in interview then you progress to medical & fitness tests, but before interview there are aptitude tests and report writing tests and there are courses out there to help hopeful candidates ahead of their tests

How do you deal with the disrespect given?
Again this is something you yourself need to decide if you can deal with yourself, have a look on youtube at the videos posted about gardai and think for yourself would you be able to stand in that gardas shoes?

    What's the daily life like?
As a student or garda? for a Garda drop in to your local station, for a student google it as career services and others have done videos about the college but honestly it's what each person makes of it - some just keep their head down and study and go to the gym and go for a drink or two once a week others do a bit more socialising again it's what each person makes of it everyone is different

For those serving officers currently in the Garda, what's life really like both in work and outside of work?

How do you manage family life while balancing the role as a police officer?

What's the organisation like to work?

You'll have to be prepared to be gone away from home for at least 12 hours on your normal working days, coupled with working nights and late shifts.

If you have children get used to the fact that it will be normal not to see them for several days running, and on special occasions such as christmas etc.

On the upside you'll be around on your days off if you don't get a call to come in.

If your OH works outside of the home then the real fun begins!

From talking to people the paper work issue when a Garda comes up alot. What exactly does this entail and how tough and time consuming is it?

Hi just wondering when you think the next recruitment announcement will be. I applied back in 2014 and did a couple of the online exams but didn't follow it up as I was still in college and wasn't fully set on it.

I'm 24 now, have a bit more life and work experience and know that this is what I want to do. I know that a campaign was was only advertised in September, would there be much of a backlog of applicants to be carried over to the next campaign?

Basically just looking for a rough idea of chances and timeline of possibly getting in as I'm going through the whole process again. Cheers

Hi, Can anyone confirm to me that the Gardi Recruitment Process is through publicjobs.ie - you simply register and wait for the website to issue you with a notification of recruitment?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thankyou :)

Yep, that's bang on. Just set up your account and put a notification on your profile for Emergency services- Garda. It will notify you when a competition opens up.:)

Figured I would pop this in here instead of starting a new thread as it is somewhat related.

Does anyone know of any specific place to contact if you have questions that aren't covered in the usual places? For example, someone I could organise a quick call with.

I am fairly well informed on the application process/stages but I have some questions relating to age, children/location and the traffic corps that don't seem to be covered (or have very limited information) here or on any of the sites I have found.

I would be leaving a 10 year career so I am looking to have every bit of information I can get before committing myself to the preparation.

I'd suggest calling down to your local station and talking to some of the members there, worth a go!
