Thats pretty good. Gamestop offered me €110 for my launch day console but the kid behind the counter didn't know how much extra i would get as a "level 3" card holder. Apparently its 25% on preorders but i don't know if that will include the Pro.

Did you try asking about the trade in offer direct for the pro? Someone got it earlier in the thread?

Battlefields upgrade will only apply to be single player experience. They don't want anyone to claim any hardware advantages for the multiplayer.

Considering the standard version is supposed to be a locked 60 and constantly dips to around 45ish, could the Pro bump it to the 60 it is supposed to be I wonder?

Being BF I'm sure there are plenty of patches to come.... :)

And that's the problem with the pro they are going to cripple any hardware advantage in multiplayer games, I don't really give a crap about single player games but if they had left the hardware alone and it provided a locked in 1080p 60fps in say The two Cod games etc then I would probably get this but they are going to hobble it in multiplayer so I'm out until we get some solid reviews on it.

It's going to be that way for any interim console upgrades. If the multiplayer has vanilla-console and upgrade-console players in the same game, you cannot give an advantage to the ones who upgraded.

In terms of resolution and HDR etc, the game will probably still look a lot better. But for a lot of multiplayer games (shooters especially), the framerate needs to be consistent across the platform. Restricting framerate in multiplayer is by far the lesser of two evils.

Similar has already been announced regarding the Scorpio:
Speaking to GameInformer Microsoft Studios general manager Shannon Loftis revealed that the frame rate of games will be identical between the Xbox One and the Project Scorpio console.

When asked specifically whether there will be different frame rates for the same game running on Xbox One and Scorpio he said: “No, there wouldn’t be a frame rate difference, because typically the frame rate is determined by the game developer and what’s right for the gameplay mechanic,” Loftis explains. “You don’t necessarily want to create two different mechanics for two different configurations.”

Loftis says that developers will continue to choose frame rate to fit their gameplay design.

“A good example is Killer Instinct, which is cross-play on PC and Xbox One. We have locked the frame rate to 60 frames per second,” Loftis says. “We could do better on super high end PCs, but that ruins the competitive nature of it.”

New Retro ad for the PS Pro.
No mention of 4K or PSVR. Just zombies for the weekend that's in it!

Funny how its only two weeks away and I haven't seen any advertising for the pro except on the internet.

Apparently they will give €195 trade-in when the Pro is released, according to someone on this thread earlier, I think.

PS4 Pro. Worth it if you don't have a 4K tv?

Depends on what you'd play and whether you already have a PS4 I guess.

Have a PS4 already but not sure if the visual upgrade to Pro would be noticeable on a 1080 tv. I don't play COD etc. I'm more of a Skyrim, Assassins Creed, Fallout 4 player.

Well, both Skyrim and Fallout are getting Pro patches so you should see improvements in them. Games going forward will support it too, though the level of support will be up to the devs.

You'll see better more consistent frame rates in Fallout and Skyrim in 1080p anyway. Possibly great draw distance detail too.

Problem is, the Pro has 2 GPU in crossfire (cuz AMD) with only 1 being used outside of Pro updated games so only the additional bust to CPU will have an effect.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,811 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Well, without a 4K tv you'll still get better framerates and possibly better graphics anyway for games which get patched. Outside of graphics, you're talking probably quicker loading times and a bigger HDD. Plus if your current PS4 is a launch model, the Pro is supposed to be a lot quieter.

I think there are still reasons to upgrade even without a 4K tv, but that is the biggest reason and it just depends on how much weight you give the other minor reasons.

Yeah they told me they'd take that much. I paid 20 off on one & was told I'd have no problem getting a Pro on release. I hope it's quieter than mine I expect it to gently launch & fly out the window when I launch Tomb Raider now :pac:

It was the same with the VR. I don't remember seeing any TV ads for it. Bar the Champions League & Pepsi sponsorship.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,811 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I think regarding advertising for the Pro and VR, they're more specialist and the vast majority of people who would be interested in them know about them anyway and have been watching their progress. Especially something like VR which will be sold more through word of mouth and reviews rather than ads.

Same with the Pro. Anyone interested in it specifically rather than just a PS4 in general likely already knows about.

I got 195 for my launch PS4 in Gamestop 2 weeks ago. In fairness they told me I could / should hold onto to it until the day the Pro released. But I was nervous the offer would be withdrawn and I didn't want to be on a long trade in queue come launch day.

Moral of the story : I can't believe how much I miss my PS4. Arrrgh :-)

I know the feels. It's less than 13 days but I'm seriously feeling the lack of it.

Anyone know if the stand is included with the Pro?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,147 ✭✭✭Lord Spence

really think they should have bundled it with a game that will show off what it can do

    Sony never bundle a stand.

It's odd that no bundles at all have been announced

Its most likely to keep the price down for the console.

Unfortunately, on both the front and back of the box, it says "Vertical stand sold separately".
