Has anyone ever made the trip over to Vegas for either of these events?

I'm thinking of going next year.

Been to DefCon twice and loved it both times. Not been to Blackhat but I went to SANS a few years ago and most people agreed it was like BlackHat but smaller - a 4 day continuous advert for Vendors of every shape and size.

If you want to go to technical talks and meet people who know stuff go to DefCon or B-Sides.

Also, do you know how much Blackhat costs?

Just one point - the sheer size of Defcon, nowhere in Ireland would be able to host 20-25k people the way vegas does.

But there are other security conferences in Ireland and Europe on a smaller scale.

Also, you are underestimating the amount of work involved in organising and planning an event like that. The Dark Tangent, who founded Defcon, started organising DefCon for next year, last year.

Dont forget the Cyber Security Summit in September. :P

The keynote speaker is that renowned security expert Miriam O'Callaghan.
